Shocker Brew 3/16: MBB Hosting NIC Tomorrow!

The men's basketball team will host Wyoming in the NIC Tournament on Tuesday.

Good morning, Shocker Nation. The men’s basketball team earned a bid to the National Invitation Tournament! The Shockers will host Wyoming in a first round matchup on Tuesday at 6pm.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

🔼 Series Win! The baseball team started its series against Butler off with a 14-8 win on Friday. The men had 14 hits, Jayson Jones hit a home run and Brady Hamilton picked up the win on the mound. The runs didn’t stop there. The Shockers won 30-1 and 6-4 on Saturday. The team matched the largest margin of victory against a D1 opponent in program history in its 30-run win. Ethan Gonzalez hit a three-run homer. Alex Ulloa hit a two-run homer. Brady Pacha earned the win on the mound in the final game.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Court Report. The No. 28 women’s tennis team swept Arkansas State 4-0 on Friday. The women won the doubles point and three singles matches to secure the win. The Shockers also beat No. 62 Long Beach State 6-1 on Saturday. The women won the doubles point and five singles matches.

🔼 Diamonds. The softball team won its Friday game against UAB 6-5 in walk-off fashion. Jodie Epperson drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a hit into a gap in left-center to score Kinzey Woody. In five innings, the women beat UAB 9-1 on Saturday. The finished the series sweep with a 2-1 win later that day. Wood hit a two-run homer in game two. Ryley Nihart earned the win on the mound in game three.

🔼 Tourney Time. The men’s basketball team won the American Conference semifinal game against Tulsa on Saturday 81-68. Kenyon Giles scored a game-high 27 points. The men advanced to the championship game on Saturday where they faced South Florida. This marks the first championship game appearance in the American. The Shockers fell to South Florida 70-55. Dillon Battie scored a team-high 15 points. Giles and Will Berg earned All-Tournament Team honors, the first teammates to since 2017.

🔼 Top 5. The women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Red Rocks Invitational. The Shockers had a final score of 893 (+29). Magdalena Domine tied for eighth place individually. Kate Tilma tied for 15th.
