🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State received 102 votes in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, sliding in fourth out of 13 teams. The fourth-place pick is the highest projected finish for Wichita State since 2021 when the Shockers were also picked fourth. Wichita State returns seven lettermen from a season ago while welcoming seven newcomers to the team after last year’s Shockers finished in a five-way tie for 10th in the American at 5-13 and 15-19 overall. Wichita State hosts Emporia State on Oct. 27 for an exhibition game in Charles Koch Arena and officially opens the season on Nov. 4 at WKU.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Ticket Punched.  After some stellar play on the court, Wichita State women's tennis sophomore Xin Tong Wang will compete at the 2024 NCAA National Championships after earning a victory in the ITA Central Region Singles Semifinals. Wang qualified for nationals after defeating five opponents in three days at the 2024 ITA Central Region Championships to reach the championship match. Wang will be the seventh Shocker all-time to compete in singles in an NCAA Individual National Championships event and the first since 2018.

🔼 First of Many. The Wichita State women's bowling team finished second out of 16 teams in their inaugural NCAA competition at the Penguin Classic. The Shockers finished the tournament with a 10-3 record, with all three losses to teams ranked in the top five nationally. Piper Reams (234.2 average) was named Tournament MVP as one of four Shockers on the All-Tournament Team. Reams was joined by Paige Wagner (3rd, 228.8), Aleesha Oden (4th, 223.6) and Ashtyn Woods (5th, 223.0).

🔼 Reverse Sweep. Wichita State volleyball shook off a sluggish start to roar past Florida Atlantic for a thrilling win on Sunday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena. Alyssa Gonzales starred offensively for the Shockers, logging a career-high 19 kills while hitting .341 while pouring in 16 of her 19 terminations over the final three sets. Not to be outdone, Morgan Stout finished with 15 kills, while Maddie Wilson joined the two in double-figures with 11 of her own and a team-high seven blocks.

🔼 Something To Prove. The American Athletic Conference, less than a month away from the 2024-25 season, announced the women's basketball preseason standings, ranking Wichita State 12th out of 13 teams. Wichita State hosts Northeastern State for an exhibition game on Oct. 30 before playing its official season opener against Oklahoma Christian in Charles Koch Arena on Mon., Nov. 4.
