Good morning, Shocker Nation.

We’re only nine days away from seeing Wichita State men’s basketball back on the hardwood! Do you have your tickets locked in yet?

What else are we mixing into today’s piping hot edition of the Shocker Brew? Find out below!

🏀 Cleared & Reloaded
🥎 Arm Whisperer
🌾 And much, much more!

🔼 Title in Houston. Pablo Roche Alcaya and Rodrigo Cruz brought home Wichita State’s first American Conference doubles title, taking down Tulsa’s Victor Tosetto and Otso Martikainen 6-4, 7-6 (1) on Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The fifth-seeded pair grabbed control in the opening set and then dominated the second-set tiebreak to close it out. Both Shockers also reached the Round of 16 in singles, and the duo now heads to the ITA Conference Masters in early November, with an NCAA Championship bid on the line.

🔼 Four-Set Finish. Wichita State volleyball handled Charlotte in four, taking the match 25-17, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19 behind a .202 team hitting percentage that outpaced the 49ers’ .135. Olivia Cohee and Maddie Wilson each put down 13 kills, with Wilson hitting .379 and both adding five blocks, while Janaya Weitkemper chipped in 10 off the bench. Jordan Heatherly ran the offense with 26 assists and a match-high 18 digs, and libero Gabi Maas led all players with 24 digs.

🔼 Cleared & Reloaded. The NCAA has approved a waiver giving Michael Gray Jr. a fourth season, restoring time lost to a knee injury that cost him nearly two full years early in his career. The 6-foot-2 guard also gets a positional reset, sliding from point guard to shooting guard now that Jahari Long and Jordan Frison can handle the ball, a move Paul Mills thinks will free Gray up for cleaner looks from three. He shot 40.9% from deep in his final season at Nicholls State before dipping to 31.1% last year while starting all 36 games for the Shockers.

🔼 Meet the New Arm Whisperer. Wichita State softball pitching coach Sara Driesenga, who joined the staff in June after seven seasons at Central Michigan, breaks down her fall impressions of the Shocker staff and what she took from scrimmages against Missouri, Oklahoma State, and others. She also walks through her path to coaching, her playing days at Michigan where she earned three All-Big Ten and All-Region nods and reached three College World Series, and how WSU’s new softball facilities measure up nationally.

We want to hear from you. Take our reader survey and tell us a little about yourself, what you love, and what you want more of. Your feedback helps us make sure every edition of the Shocker Brew email is worth opening.
