Shocker Brew 10/13: Positive Vibes

Today, we savor a Shocker title and look ahead to the programs hitting the road this weekend

Good morning! It’s crazy to think that the Shockers are halfway through the first semester with everything that’s happened thus far, but there’s still so much action to come before the final bell rings.

What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🔼 Back to Back. This weekend, Shocker volleyball will head to The Big Easy to square off against Tulane for a pair of AAC matches. The team is coming in to the weekend on fire, winning eight of its last nine matches. A pair of wins would help the Black and Gold improve to seven wins in AAC play and would help catapult them further up the standings.

Following last week’s wins, the Shockers jumped up to No. 55 in the FPI rankings and now have the third-best RPI in the conference. A big part of the jump was due to the defense who ranks 8th nationally in opponent hitting percentage (.149) and 35th in the nation in blocks per set (2.51).

🔼 Survive and Advance. Shocker women’s tennis is showing how it’s done at the ITA Central Regionals. Giorgia Roselli earned two wins during the singles qualifying rounds to advance to the round of 32 while Clara Whitaker and Theodora Chantava competed in the doubles qualifying round.

The tournament continues today with Shockers in action all throughout the day as they make their way through the rounds and try to survive and advance.

🔼 Positive Vibes Only. Hosting a tournament adds a bit of pressure that other tournaments might go without, but this week, the Shocker men’s golf team put aside that added stress to come out on top. Aston Castillo and Blake Lorenz especially stepped up to help deliver the team a title, likely due to the helpful format of the tournament.

🗣️ "We were feeding off each other's energy. We're both pretty sarcastic, dry humor. Even in the tough times, it was easy to keep it solid." - Blake Lorenz

🔼 RV Weekend. This weekend is RV Weekend for Shocker baseball! Bring your tenement on wheels to the right field parking lot and get ready for a baseball-filled weekend. For more info and to RSVP, click here!

🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA

The Protector. The Shockers have racked up quite a few wins because of its defense this season, and with good defense comes a good protector at the net.
