Shocker Brew 10/18: Always On Go
Today, basketball gets its shine after an eventful media day
Good morning! Then vs. Now. Take a look at what parades at Wichita State have looked like over the years through the lens, dating back to 1973.
What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?
🏀 Roundhouse Feature
🗣️ Coach’s Quotables
🌾 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Roundhouse Feature. Shocker men’s basketball newcomer Dalen Ridgnal had barely practiced with his new team prior to the team’s trip to Greece, but that didn’t stop him from showing his new coaching staff that he’s always on go.
Coming off a season from Missouri State, Ridgnal is looking to make an immediate impact for Wichita State. His teammates have noticed him stepping up into a leadership role, as he sets the tone in practice and shows how to get things done both on and off the court.
🔼 A Pro’s Pro. The Shockers have quite the spread of former student-athletes showing off in their respective fields this time of year.
🏀 Both Fred VanVleet and Craig Porter have been showcasing their talent on the basketball court. VanVleet has appeared in some preseason action as he gears up for his starting role in Houston while Porter has shown some flash as he makes his case for a rotation spot with the Cavaliers.
⚾️ Third baseman Alec Bohm continues his march towards the World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
🔼 Round Up. In the Shockers men’s tennis latest contest at the Cowboy Classic, Vanja Hodzic finished as the singles runner-up. Each of his wins leading up to the championship match were had in straight sets before falling in the finals. The team is back in action today exactly where they played last, in Stillwater, OK, for the ITA Central Region Championships.
🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA
On to the Next. Shocker men’s golf is living it up at the beach for the Bahamas NCAA Invitational in the team’s final tournament of the fall season. Heading into this tournament, the Shockers are riding a bit of momentum from their last showing.

🌾 ONE BIG THING
Wichita State men’s basketball had its media day, and head coach Paul Mills provided all of Shocker Nation with his thoughts on a variety of different topics as the team gears up for the 2023-24 season.
On what he thinks a successful season looks like…
“As a I tell the players, we're just trying to go 1-0. Let's go 1-0 today. Let's figure out how to get better today. My message to the players right now is let's leave it better than you found it. When we leave here today, let's be better than when we walked in. If we're not, let's be better in our recovery, so we can be better tomorrow.”
