Shocker Brew 10/2: Hard Hitters

Today, a recap from a busy Shocker weekend

Good morning! Shocker basketball is on the horizon which means it’s only a matter of time before Charles Koch Arena is rocking again with the best fans in the nation.

What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🏐 Big Win
👟 Giving It All
🌾 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Big Win. After dropping the first match against SMU on Friday, the Shockers came back with a huge road win, splitting the two-game series in the Lone Star State.

Barbara Koehler came up big for the Shockers with a double-double, leading the team with 15 kills and adding 17 digs. The team finished the match with a .308 hitting percentage compared to .188 by their opponent, a big reason for the win. The Shockers will return home with a 3-1 conference record and will prepare to face off against Temple.

🔼 Hard Hitting Data. The more data that’s available, the more we know that Shocker baseball’s Jaden Gustafson is loaded with power. In an earlier scrimmage this weekend, the outfielder hit the laces off the ball with a 418-foot three-run home run. Pitchers will sure to beware of this hard-hitter come springtime.

🔼 Giving It All. Shocker women’s cross country played spoilers yet again with a third place finish at this weekend’s Gans Creek Classic behind Lucy Ndungu’s third consecutive top-three finish. Her time of 20:41.0 in the 6K race was a full two minutes and 23 seconds faster than her previous best.

The men’s team finished as the 15th best team at the Joe Piane Invitational with Jackson Caldwell leading the charge for the Shockers with a time of 24:25.5.

🔼 All American Men. Seven members of Shockers men’s tennis were selected alongside 249 players across the nation to compete in this year’s ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, OK this week. Representing the Shockers will be Misha Kvantaliani, Kristof Minarik, Alejandro Jacome, Richey King, Marcelo Sepulveda, Luke Bracks and Vanja Hodzic. Each member will compete in the singles bracket and will need to win four pre-qualifying matches to advance to the 128-player qualifying draw.
