🔼 Starting Off Strong. For the first time in many, many days, Shocker Nation gathered to cheer on the men’s basketball team to a 74-53 exhibition win at the CKA in the first action of the season.

After coming out the gates a bit slow, the Shockers had a feel for live action basketball in the second half, outscoring their opponent 40-23. Four Shockers finished the game in double-digits, with Quincy Ballard leading all scorers with 14 points in 23 minutes of play. Both Ballard and Kenny Pohto finished with the first double-doubles of the season as the Shockers out-rebounded Rogers State 54-27.

With the first game action under their belts, Wichita State men’s hoops will take to the court for stat-counting, win column binding basketball on Nov. 6 against Lipscomb

🔼 Set the Standard. Prior to Shocker men’s basketball first regular season game in 2023, head coach Paul Mills has drilled it into his team’s head that it’s time to set the standard. It’s the simple things he’s stressing: hustle, boxing out, sprinting back - all of which can lead to successful games with a buy in from the full team.

🔼 Clutch Performance. In a back and forth match against Memphis, the Shockers were the ones who came out on top with a 3-2 victory for 10th conference win of the season. Morgan Stout had a career day for the Shockers with a career-high 17 kills on the match with four blocks and an ace in a key moment to help seal the deal. The team committed 10 less errors than the Tigers and had a .070 better hitting percentage, all huge factors in earning the win.

Next up, the Shockers return home for the first of a four-match homestand against North Texas on Friday evening.

🔼 Hot Corner. Shocker baseball had a good day out on the diamond in Dallas this weekend in the team’s final competitive action of the fall. After 14 innings against Dallas Baptist University, the Shockers came away with a win. Caden Favors looked strong on the mound with three strikeouts in two innings, and the bats came alive throughout the game to edge out a win.

🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA

Running Man. Over the weekend the runners of Shocker cross country put together an impressive performance, and as you will soon read, one racer in particular came away with a Wichita State school record.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker cross country showed out at the AAC Championships over the weekend with Lucy Ndungu leading the women’s team to a fifth-place team finish and runner-up individual title. As for the men’s team, Jackson Caldwell helped them to a fourth place finish behind his record-breaking race.

🗣️ "Those girls in that race are legit competitors; they're top NCAA Division I runners, and Lucy proved she belongs there. That was an absolutely fabulous race on her part, probably the most impressive race I've seen her run so far." - head coach Kirk Hunter

In total, the Shockers finished with three runners on the all-conference list including Caldwell, Ndungu and Miranda Dick who all placed in the top 15.
