🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State’s Elkana Kipruto earned the American Conference men’s individual title, while Mercy Jepkoech was named the American Conference Women’s Freshman of the Year at the American Conference Championships. As a team, the men finished third, while the women took fifth. Kipruto defeated the fifth-ranked runner in the NCAA to claim the title, running a 23:16.6 in the 8K. Jepkoech was the first women’s Shocker to cross the line, finishing 10th overall in the 6K.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 That’s A Title! Wichita State bowling won the Track Kat Klash championship in Houston on Sunday afternoon, ending 13 qualifying matches at the top of the leaderboard in total pinfall and sweeping the title match 4-0. The Shockers posted four matches over 1,000 while Morgan Kline earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team as she placed third individually. Wichita State will be back in Texas for the Bulldog Classic in Fort Worth from Nov. 7-9.

🔼 A Sweep. Wichita State volleyball posted a 3-0 sweep over South Florida on Sunday afternoon. It marked South Florida’s first loss at home all season. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with a match-high 16 kills, while Jordan Heatherly and Hannah Hawkins each added 16 assists, and Gabi Maas posted 12 digs. As a team, the Shockers hit .363 while keeping the Bulls to a .185 hitting percentage.

🔼 Full Speed. Wichita State softball is embracing technology and cameras this fall to help its pitchers see multiple angles of their pitches, and know exactly what’s happening on the mound. The Shockers use Trackman and TruMedia to take video of pitches and turn that information into a dedicated strategy to get better. Here’s why it’s working.

🔼 Finding More Scoring. Both Wichita State men’s and women’s basketball programs spent the offseason focused on finding scoring additions. Coach Paul Mills says his men’s team’s biggest area of improvement from last season is perimeter shooting, while Coach Terry Nooner is excited about the women’s squad’s new backcourt combination featuring Abby Cater and Jaila Harding.
