Today, Bertry earns second All-AAC selection and a pair of basketball previews

Good morning! A couple of former Shocker runners showed out this weekend in NYC, finishing in the top 20 in the city’s famous marathon.

What else are we mixing into today’s edition of the Shocker Brew?

👟 Bertry earns second All-AAC selection
🏀 A pair of basketball previews
🌾 And much, much more!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Senior Sarah Bertry recorded the best individual finish of the day for the Shockers, taking 14th with a 6K time of 21:29.8 at the American Athletic Conference Championships. Once all was said and done, Wichita State placed fourth in the men's team competition and sixth in the women's. Bertry became the fourth Shocker woman to be named a two-time All-AAC performer in cross country, making it seven-straight championship meets where a Shocker woman has been on the all-conference list.

🗣️ "I was really proud of the way they battled. They did a wonderful job, and as far as what we could've done, that's what we had to do." - Kirk Hunter, head coach

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 The Start of It All. Year two of the Paul Mills era officially opens on the road at Western Kentucky on college basketball's opening night. The meeting between the Shockers and the Hilltoppers will be the seventh in program history, with the all-time series tied at three apiece. Wichita State returns three starters and seven letterwinners from the 2023-24 roster, including three of its top five scorers.

🔼 Ready To Rock. Shocker women’s basketball officially begins year two of the Terry Nooner era today against Oklahoma Christian in Charles Koch Arena. This marks the first time the two teams will face off. With nine newcomers on the team, WSU returns 37.6 percent of their scoring led by Salese Blow, who is back for her sophomore season after leading Wichita State in scoring during conference play. She averaged 13.5 points per game in the AAC and 12.3 points per game overall.

🔼 Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop. Shocker volleyball’s Brooklyn Leggett produced a career-high 22 kills and Katie Galligan had 27 digs as Wichita State topped Tulsa for the second time in three days. The Shockers have now beaten the Golden Hurricane 21 consecutive times in Wichita and 12 straight times overall. The win guarantees WSU a top-eight finish and a spot in the AAC tournament. The Shockers are back in action on Friday night at Rice with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
