Wichita State men’s hoops opened a new season in style last night, defeating UNC Asheville, 75-58. Three Shockers finished in double-digit scoring, including Kenyon Giles with 20 points, and Karon Boyd and Dre Kindell with 11 apiece. Boyd led the way for the Shockers with 10 rebounds.

The Shockers will welcome Prairie View to Wichita on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 6 p.m.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State women’s hoops posted a dominant win to open the season on Monday night! The Shockers shot 57 percent from the field and forced Lincoln into 31 turnovers as WSU secured the 96-42 win. Jaila Harding led the way for the Shockers with 17 points (including five baskets from beyond the arc), while Sophie Benharouga added 15 points, and Abby Cater and Taya Davis logged 12 and seven points.

“Great first night out,” said head coach Terry Nooner. “It was a total team effort.”

Wichita State is back at it tomorrow night as Northwestern State visits Charles Koch Arena at 6 p.m. Tickets are available here.

🔼 Like Family. Taya Davis is a new face on the Wichita State women’s basketball roster. After Monday’s win, head coach Terry Nooner said, “Getting Taya was a real lucky thing.” Here’s why she chose to call Wichita State home.

🔼 Next Up. Wichita State men’s golf is set to end the fall season at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational, which starts today and runs through Nov. 9. In their last tournament, the Shockers placed third at the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational.

🔼 Honor Roll. WSU volleyball’s Brooklyn Leggett landed on the American Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 2. The senior averaged 4.00 kills per set, 0.86 digs per set, and 0.43 blocks per set en route to securing two road wins for the Shockers.
