Good morning, Shocker Nation. Opening night came with a short bench and cold shooting, and Wichita State men’s basketball still came away with the win!
William Berg went for career highs of 26 points and 16 rebounds on 11-of-16 shooting, Kenyon Giles chipped in 21 with a career-best eight assists, and Wichita State held off CSUN 79-67 despite hitting just 37.3 percent from the floor. Jahari Long and Jordan Frison made solid Shocker debuts with 12 points and seven assists, respectively.
👉 Next up: USC on Sunday at 10 p.m. at the Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

All those weights, yoga sessions, ice baths and skipped bowls of pasta turned into one three-second highlight: William Berg sprinting from half-court, catching a Jordan Frison pass at the foul line, and dunking over a defender in the opening minutes. The 7-foot-2 center finished with career highs of 26 points and 16 rebounds, 16 of those points coming after halftime. He says the difference is conditioning. 🔼 Spring On Sale. Nothing like baseball tickets hitting the market to make November feel shorter! 2027 baseball season tickets are here, with general admission starting at $75 and chairbacks at $99. Wichita State hosts 35 games at Eck Stadium, opening with Hofstra on Feb. 19-21 and bringing in Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Omaha and more for non-conference visits. Five American Conference series land at home, and fans can get an early look at the roster at the First Pitch Banquet on Jan. 29.

🔼 Defending the Crown at Home. There’s plenty to look forward to at Wilkins Stadium in the spring with season ticket on sale now! Head coach Kristi Bredbenner returns 14 players from the team that shared the 2026 American Conference title, headlined by Kinzey Woody, who swept Freshman and Player of the Year honors. Reserved seats behind home plate go for $100 with general admission at $75.

🔼 Rings and Medals. A new World Champions Wall debuted on the Charles Koch Arena concourse this week, honoring Shockers who’ve won Olympic and Paralympic gold or major professional titles. The lineup runs deep: Joe Carter’s walk-off World Series homer in 1993, Bill Parcells’ two Super Bowl rings with the Giants, NBA championships for Fred VanVleet, Landry Shamet, and others, and three Paralympic gold medals from tennis director of operations Nick Taylor. The display comes courtesy of a gift from the Roger and Jaki Scholfield Foundation.

🔼 Brand New Everything. Twelve new players, zero returners, and a fresh start on the road; Wichita State women’s basketball goes for its first win of the season tonight at 5:30 p.m. against Kansas City. Terry Nooner rebuilt the entire roster this offseason, bringing in five high school signees and two SEC transfers, including Missouri’s Ma’Riya Vincent, who led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds in the opener. Wichita State owns the all-time series 9-2 and has never lost in Kansas City. Full preview here.

🔼 October’s Best. Xin Tong Wang earned American Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Month after sweeping through the conference individual championships in Houston, winning all four matches in straight sets as the top seed. She also reached the doubles final alongside Giorgia Roselli, finishing runner-up to Charlotte’s pairing.
On the court, the bulk of the Wichita State women’s tennis gets to work today at the Tulsa Invitational, with Giorgia Roselli, Alisa Ozgun, Alina Vysochenko, and Dinara De Silva all in action through Sunday. Roselli arrives off a runner-up finish in doubles at the American Individual Championships. Meanwhile, Xin Tong Wang is already underway at the ITA Conference Masters in Rome, Georgia, where a semifinal run would mean a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship.
