Shocker Brew: 2/17: More Late-Season MBB Momentum
The WSU MBB continued their strong play of late, winning their fourth straight game, upsetting No. 14 Memphis in Charles Koch Arena Sunday afternoon.
Good morning, Shocker Nation! Wichita State needed five extra minutes to record its biggest win of the season, upsetting No. 14 Memphis, 84-79, in Charles Koch Arena Sunday afternoon.
Wichita State (15-10, 5-7) snapped a 10-game losing streak vs. ranked opponents with the victory.
The Shockers continued their strong play of late, winning their fourth straight game after starting conference play 1-7. WSU is 2-0 in overtime games this season.

Knocking Down Pins … and Ranked Opponents. Wichita State knocked off the #1, #2 and #3-ranked teams in the country on Sunday to win the 2025 Mid-Winter Invitational. The tournament win is Wichita State's second of the spring after claiming the Columbia 300 Saints Invite on February 2.

🔼 And We’re On the Board. Wichita State got a strong start from Jace Miner and four scoreless innings from the bullpen to salvage the series finale against McNeese with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
The late bullpen heroics made an early lead stand up, as the Shockers scored four times in the first innings. Camden Johnson led off the contest with a solo home run on the game's first pitch, Wichita State's first game-opening home run since Chuck Ingram did so against Tulane on April 14, 2023. Then in the second inning, the Shockers (1-2) put three more runs on the board, getting a two-run triple from Cole Dillon and a run-scoring single from Johnson for a 4-0 lead.

🔼 Living Legends. As a member of the Missouri Valley Conference – then one of the nation's top conferences – the Shockers MBB team spent the first half of the decade often nationally ranked and in post-season play. WSU peaked in 1965 with a second straight MVC title and an appearance in the Final Four.
The 1965 team celebrated its 60th anniversary this weekend with six Shockers (Dave Leach, Gerry Reimond, Manny Zafiros, Tommy Newman, Melvin Reed and Bob Powers). The group was introduced during Sunday's game against Memphis at Koch Arena.
🔼 Home Dubs = Best Dubs. The Wichita State WBB team picked up its third AAC victory with a 60-57 win over the Rice Owls in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena.
Wichita State (9-18, 3-11 AAC) Rice (12-13, 5-8 AAC) to just 57 points, well below their season average off 66.5, marking the fourth time in five games that the Shockers have kept their opponents below 60 points. The Shockers shot 6-for-18 (33.3 percent) from three, their best three-point percentage since Jan. 11, and 22-for-59 (37.3 percent) from the field.

🔼 Relaying Good News. Wichita State's men's 4x400-meter relay team concluded the Ichabod Invitational with a school record and a win Saturday evening in the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
Joakim Genereux, Josh Parrish, Hudson Bailey and Jason Parrish ran 3:10.60 to win the relay, breaking a 16-year old school record previously held by Chris Dickman, Jared Foley, Dylan Hartnett and Justin Smith.

🔼 A Saturday Split. Wichita State split the final day of the Shriner's Children’s Clearwater Invitational, defeating Liberty, 3-2, before falling to No. 8/9 Florida State in 6 innings, 15-5, on Saturday evening at Eddie C. Moore Complex.
With the split, the Shockers finish 1-4 at the Clearwater Invitational. Four of the five games were against teams ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25 polls.

🔼 On a New Path. After three straight heartbreaking losses, the Wichita State men's tennis team got over the hump with a triumphant 5-2 win over the Denver Pioneers on Sunday afternoon at Genesis Rock Road.
The win snapped Wichita State's three-match long losing streak and they sit at 3-5 on the season.
