Good morning, Shocker Nation.
What else are we mixing into today’s piping hot edition of the Shocker Brew? Find out below!
🏀 Game Time
⚾ Exactly what he did
🌾 And much, much more!
🌾 ONE BIG THING
📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Game Day. Wichita State (16-10, 8-5 American) heads to Greenville tonight to face East Carolina (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+) looking for a season sweep of the Pirates and to stay in the thick of the American Conference race. The Shockers sit tied for second in the standings, fueled by Kenyon Giles' electric season, as he's averaging 18.6 points per game (highest by a Shocker since 2000) with 85 three-pointers, just 14 shy of the program's single-season record. WSU also ranks 5th nationally in offensive rebounds at 14.7 per game, on pace to shatter the school record.

🔼 Offensive Firepower. Jayson Jones came to Wichita to hit, and that's exactly what he did. The senior third baseman crushed four home runs in the Shockers' opening weekend sweep of Northern Colorado, finishing .467 with 12 RBI and nine runs scored. WSU outscored the Bears 43-8 behind eight total homers, with Max Kaufer adding two and MJ Sweeney delivering one on a gritty 12-pitch at-bat that had teammates buzzing. The pitching staff was sharp too, posting a 1.80 ERA with 41 strikeouts. With 31 new faces on the roster, Coach Brian Green liked what he saw across the board. Up next: a four-game trip to Hawaii starting Thursday.

🔼 Making History. Talk about a comeback. After sitting in last place following round one, the Shockers stormed back to finish fourth at the Border Olympics, their fifth consecutive top-five finish. The star of the show was Jose Miguel Ramirez, who fired a second-round 63, tying the second-lowest individual round in program history. That electric round vaulted him up 27 spots on the leaderboard into first place, and he held on to finish runner-up at 6-under overall. Emilio Arellano Lamas closed strong with a final-round 69 to help steady the team. Next up: Las Vegas for the Lake Las Vegas Collegiate, Feb. 23-25.

🔼 Conference Star. Junior hurdler Josh Parrish is making noise on the national stage. The Olathe, Kan. native picked up his second American Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week award after a dominant weekend, running four 60-meter hurdles races across two days, tying his own school record at 7.70 at the Tyson Invitational, then winning the Ichabod Invitational the very next day. His 7.70 ranks second in the conference and 26th nationally. He also anchored the third leg of a winning 4x400 relay. The Shockers head to Kansas State next Friday for the Steve Miller Invitational.
