Shocker Brew: 2/19: And the Oscar Goes To...

A day after earning AAC Player of the Week, Wichita State junior forward Corey Washington can now add Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week to his resume.

Good morning, Shocker Nation! A day after earning AAC Player of the Week, Wichita State junior forward Corey Washington can now add Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week to his resume. The USBWA in conjunction with the Oscar Robertson Trophy recognize five National DI Players of the Week.

In a pair of wins last week, Washington averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds. He started the week with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double vs. UTSA and closed with another monster double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds in a win over No. 14 Memphis. He has scored 10 or more points in 14 consecutive games and his seven double-doubles this season are second on the team.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 In Pursuit Of the Four-Peat. Wichita State opens its two-game road swing with a matchup with reigning regular season AAC champion Temple tonight in the Liacouras Center, tipping off at 6 p.m. CT. The teams meet for the 16th time in program history, with Temple leading the series 10-5. The Owls have won the last two meetings, sweeping the series last season.

WSU picked up its third American Athletic Conference victory with a 60-57 win over the Rice Owls in a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon in Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers are seeking their fourth conference win to continue to climb the conference standings.

🔼 Cloudy With a Chance of Rescheduling. Due to winter weather in the forecast, Wichita State softball's schedule has been altered this week.

The Shockers were originally scheduled to play at East Texas A&M today (Wednesday, Feb. 19) and then in Norman for the OU Tournament, Feb. 20-22. The East Texas A&M game has been canceled. The OU Tournament has been pushed back two days and split between Marita Hynes Field and Love's Field with play beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22. Wichita State will play Bowling Green on Feb. 22 at Noon at Marita Hynes Field. On Sunday, Wichita State will play Oklahoma at 11 a.m. (Love's Field) and Abilene Christian at 1:30 p.m. (Marita Hynes). Play will conclude Monday at 11 a.m. vs. Abilene Christian (Love's Field).

🔼 Going Out With a Bang. March can mean the start of a special tournament time, and it can mean the end of a basketball career.

Wichita State's Taylor Jameson made sure her teammates realize she and all seniors are playing to end their careers with as much of a bang as possible. Coach Terry Nooner ends each practice by gathering the Shockers in the middle of the court for happy birthdays, encouragement and announcements. He opens the floor to any player or coach who wants to speak.

Last week, Jameson spoke up. The Shockers play four games – two on the road, two at home – conference championship starts March 8 in Fort Worth.

"It was really just to lift up my teammates and make sure everybody was on the same page," she said.

If the Shockers (9-18, 3-11 AAC) are going to finish strong, Saturday's 60-57 win over Rice is a start. WSU plays at Temple (15-10, 9-5) at 6 p.m. Wednesday (ESPN+).
