🌾 ONE BIG THING

After adding AAC Pitcher of the Week to her resume, Chloe Barber earned national recognition as she was named the D1Softball National Freshman of the Week. Barber’s performance at the Razorback Invitational drew national attention. She appeared in three games, made two starts, and struck out a total of 33 hitters in 15.0 innings. She allowed only two runs, sporting a 0.93 ERA on eight hits. In her start against Illinois State, Barber broke the single-game strikeout record with 16 Ks.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Previewing the Roadtrip. Shocker men’s basketball will make its first trip of the season, and the first trip since 1982, to Birmingham to face off against UAB tonight at 7 p.m. Wichita State leads the all-time series 4-0 and is entering the game coming off a close overtime loss to Temple. The Blazers come into the matchup 4-1 over their last five games and sit at 10-4 in conference play this season. Xavier Bell scored 17 points the last time out as the team’s leading scorer. Colby Rogers, the three-point specialist, has made a shot from behind the arc in all but one game this season with a 37.8% shooting percentage, second in the AAC.

🔼  Sweep of the Week. The Shockers swept the AAC weekly softball awards earning both Pitcher and Player of the Week honors. Chloe Barber earned her first AAC Pitcher of the Week award of her career for her outings in Arkansas while CC Wong earned her first weekly award after being named the AAC Player of the Week. Over five games, Wong was 8-for-14 at the plate with a double, three home runs, four walks, four runs scored and 11 RBI. Through 10 games, Wong has a .548 batting average which ranks 11th nationally and is top 10 in the country in on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

🥎 Unfortunately, Wichita State's home opener vs. Iowa has been canceled due to inclement weather in the forecast. The game could be rescheduled for a later date but has not been set at this time.

🔼  Play4Kay. Tonight, Shocker women’s basketball will be playing for a purpose. Wichita State will host their annual Play4Kay game today at 6 p.m. vs SMU. Two dollars from each ticket sold will be donated to the Kay Tow Cancer Fund for breast cancer research. Be sure to wear pink and the first 500 fans inside The Roundhouse will receive a special pink rally towel!
