Shocker Brew: 3/14: High-Stakes Hoops, High Noon

Wichita State's MBB season is still alive after a 73-68 win over 9th-seeded South Florida in the second round of the AAC Championship.

Good morning, Shocker Nation! Corey Washington and Bijan Cortes both recorded 20-point performances to keep Wichita State's season alive in a 73-68 win over 9th-seeded South Florida in the second round of the AAC Championship. Wichita State knocked down nine three-pointers, tied for second most in a game this season.

Cortes recorded a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Quincy Ballard was a force on the glass and the defensive end, pulling down 12 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Wichita State (19-13) advances to today's quarterfinals, facing top-seeded Memphis at Noon on ESPN2.

🔼 The Nitty Gritty. A rally in doubles and gritty singles play powered the Wichita State women's tennis team to a 4-1 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon at LA Tech Tennis Center.
 
The Shockers (7-6) have won three of their last four matches, and LA Tech (10-6) has lost four of their last five.

🔼 Memory Lane. The 2014-15 Wichita State men’s basketball team hosted ESPN's College GameDay, won the MVC title and advanced to the Sweet 16. Mike Kennedy and Bob Hull join this week’s Roundhouse Podcast to reminisce 10 years later. We discuss a rout of Memphis that set the tone for the early schedule, a dramatic win over Hawaii and a close loss at Utah.

🔼 Eight is Great. The Wichita State men's golf team wrapped up an eighth-place finish in an 18-team field at the GCU Invitational on Wednesday evening. The Shockers took eighth with a team score of 870, one ahead of ninth-place UC Riverside and three behind seventh-place Northern Illinois.
 
Jose Carletta led the way for the Shockers behind an excellent 67 (-4) round three. Mitchell Revie was just one stroke behind the Venezuelan with a 216 score.

🔼 Golf From A to Z. The Wichita State women's golf team—which has risen from No. 180 to No. 162 in the Scoreboard Golf Rankings—continues its spring campaign today through Sunday at the Red Rocks Invitational, in Northern Arizona.
 
The Shockers have finished top ten in each of their first three tournaments of the year, including a third-place finish at the Texas State Invitational on February 3. The team put up an excellent performance two weeks ago in the Mountain View Intercollegiate, finishing eighth, ahead of multiple Power Four teams, including topping No. 47 Miami.

🔼 On the Upswing. The Wichita State softball team welcomes North Texas to Wilkins Stadium for its home-opening conference series of the season. The Shockers snapped a 5-game losing streak on Wednesday with a road win at Kansas, 7-3.

🔼 Time to Snap This Skid. The Wichita State men's tennis team hosts No. 50 Memphis today at 1 p.m. CT. The Shockers are 5-7 and have dropped their last two matches, losing 5-2 to New Mexico on March 7, and to No. 67 Santa Clara on March 8, 4-3. The squad is 3-2 at home.

Memphis will be the first ranked team the Shockers will face at home this year.

The 2014-15 Shockers went 30-5 and 17-1 to win the MVC by one game over Northern Iowa. WSU defeated Indiana and Kansas in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 game. The Shockers were nationally ranked from start to finish, peaking at No. 8 in December and then again in March.
