🌾 ONE BIG THING

It’s playoff time in Fort Worth, Texas for Shocker men’s basketball! Wichita State will begin its run as a No. 12 seed in the 2024 AAC Championship with a first-round matchup against No. 13 Rice today at Noon on ESPN+. The Shockers will be making its sixth appearance in the AAC Championship, having won at least one game in the conference tournament 13 of the last 14 years.

Rice comes into the matchup with an 11-20 record and finished 5-13 in conference play, dropping its final four games of the regular season. Wichita State leads the all-time series with Rice, 2-1, and the Shockers won the only regular-season meeting against the Owls just over a week ago in Wichita, 87-66. The winner will advance to face No. 5 Memphis in Thursday's second round.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Next Man Up. Shocker baseball scored two in the sixth and three in the eighth, but the comeback fell just short as Wichita State fell 8-6 to Nebraska. The Shocker bullpen helped the team stay in it, allowing just one run over the final five innings. After the Huskers answered with a run of their own in the seventh to make it 8-3, Wichita State got three consecutive two-out RBI singles from Ryan Callahan, Josh Livingston and Jaden Gustafson to claw within 8-6 in the bottom of the eighth but got no closer. The Shockers and Nebraska will conclude the midweek series on this evening at 6 p.m. at Eck Stadium.

🔼  Rallied Back. Wichita State women's tennis roared back to knock off the North Texas Mean Green, 4-2, for the team’s third win in a row. After failing to secure the doubles point, four Shocker singles secured points, led by Theodora Chantava who captured the match-winning point in a hard-fought three sets.

🗣️ "It was a nearly four-hour battle. A fantastic match. It was two very evenly matched teams, but we just fought and found a way to win." - head coach Collin Foster

🔼  Double Dose. Shocker softball dropped its doubleheader against the Jayhawks in two close battles. In game one, the Black and Gold loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to plate enough runs to complete the comeback and fell, 6-3. The second game of the day needed extra innings to be decided, but it was Kansas who came through with a game-winning hit. CC Wong tallied six hits across the two games and Addison Barnard came through in the clutch with a game-tying three-run home run. The Shockers will continue conference play this weekend at East Carolina for a three-game series.
