What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?
🥎 Softball sweeps the Roadrunners
⚾️ Baseball earns series win over the Blazers
🌾 And much, much more!
🌾 ONE BIG THING
Get out the broomsticks! Shocker softball earned three wins on the weekend over UTSA thanks to standout performances from up and down the roster, but none more notable than CC Wong. Wong came up big in the series finale by blasting a single-game school record three home runs which accounted for six runs scored. Bailey Urban added a pair of her own over-the-fencers while Addison Barnard and Caroline Tallent joined in with deep shots of their own. The seven total home runs tied for the third most in a single game in school history.
The second-straight series sweep helped Wichita State extend its win streak to six games as the Shockers look to make it seven as they host top-ranked Oklahoma to Wilkins Stadium on Tuesday night.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Series Dub. After falling to UAB on Friday’s series opener, the Shockers bounced back with two straight wins to take the series over the Blazers. Sunday’s win sealed the deal for Wichita State behind a strong start from Tommy LaPour who put together five innings of work with a season-high nine strikeouts. The offense came alive in the latter half of the game as Jaden Gustafson led the way with four hits and three RBI to help the Shockers to a 9-1 victory. The Shockers return home on Tuesday to take on long-time rival Oklahoma State at Eck Stadium.
🔼 Close Calls. At the 65th Annual Ralph O’Connor Rice Invitational, Shocker men’s tennis dropped a pair of close matches. After dropping the first match to the tournament hosts, the Shockers’ closing duel against UAB finished 4-3 with Marcelo Sepulveda, Misha Kvantaliani and Alejandro Jacome helping fuel the near comeback after winning each of their singles matches. The Shockers will remain in the Lone Star State for a bout on Thursday against UT-Arlington.
🔼 Pitchers In Control. As hot as the hitters have been for Shocker softball, the players from the circle have stepped up to create a balanced attack for the team. Read more from Paul Suellentrop who talks about Chloe Barber and how her plan of attack going forward involves relaxing and not being so hard on herself.
