Good morning! Shocker softball’s third baseman is trending towards becoming one of the best in the country. Through 14 games this season, CC Wong was rated the No. 4 player in her position by SoftballAmerica after posting a .489 batting average with 22 hits and 14 RBI.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

For the second time this season, the Shockers’ Salese Blow was named the AAC Freshman of the Week. The native of Murphy, Texas put up a team-high 24 points against SMU while hitting three three-pointers and shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the line. Blow also hit her second buzzer-beater of the year, draining a three as time expired to send the game to overtime. The standout freshman has led Wichita State in scoring 12 times this season and is averaging 12.1 points per game.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Fought ‘Til The Finish. After falling back four runs early in the game, Shocker baseball was unable to complete the comeback and fell 5-3 against Oklahoma. Wichita State cut the deficit in half by getting two runs back in the top of the sixth. Derek Williams homered for a third consecutive game, launching an opposite-field two-run blast to slice the Oklahoma lead. Six Shocker relievers made an appearance and allowed three runs over the final 4.1 innings. Freshman Drew Iverson struck out a career-high three batters to highlight the efforts from the bullpen. The Shockers return home on Friday to open a three-game series against Long Beach State.

🔼  Preview of the Pokes. Coming off a 2-2 weekend at the Big Red Invitational, Shocker softball will play in its first midweek contest against No. 4 Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Wichita State is 7-3 in its last 10 games after having played the nation’s 15th toughest schedule so far this season. Nine of the 16 wins against the Cowgirls have come under head coach Kristi Bredbenner, and the team is just one year removed from taking two games out of three against OSU.

🔼  Cheers To That. Wichita State women’s basketball capped off its regular season with a come-from-behind road victory over UAB. The Shockers clawed back from a 16-point deficit to claim the win over the Blazers on their home court. Daniela Abies recorded her 10^th double-double of the season with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Salese Blow scored 14 points, her 19^th game in double figures. Senior Ambah Kowcun put up a season-high 11 points off the bench for the Shockers.

Wichita State will play its first-round game in the American Athletic Conference Championships against Florida Atlantic on Friday, March 9 at 4 p.m.

🔼  Big Guns. The infamous AfterShocks team from the TBT has secured reinforcements for this upcoming summer. TBT will return to Wichita as one of its regional hosts, and Rashad Kelly will be back with the team in hopes of bringing home the first TBT Championship.
