📈 STOCK UP

🔼  Final Showdown. Shocker men’s basketball will close out the regular season on Friday night in New Orleans against Tulane. The Black and Gold are coming off the best performance in conference play, defeating Rice, 87-66, in the final home game of the season. The team currently sits as the No. 11 seed in the American Athletic Conference, but a win could move the Shockers into a higher seed for the postseason tournament. Wichita State leads the all-time series with Tulane, 7-4, and the Shockers are 3-1 versus the Green Wave on their home court.

🔼  Going The Distance. Shocker softball went toe-to-toe against the No. 4 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls, but fell in extra innings 4-3. The bottom of the sixth inning saw Wichita State score all three of their runs thanks to crafty base running and disciplined plate appearances. In the circle, Alex Aguilar had her best start of the season after going 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Bailey Urban and Lainee Brown both had a pair of hits on the night when the Shockers had just five as a team. Addison Barnard recorded the other hit on a deep single down the left-field line. Wichita State will welcome Florida Atlantic to Wilkins Stadium for its 2024 home and American Athletic Conference opener on Friday.

🔼  Old Rivals. Wichita State baseball will look to begin a new streak as they welcome in Long Beach State for a three-game series at Eck Stadium. This series will be the first games between the two clubs in Wichita since 2014 when the Shockers and Dirtbags split a doubleheader. Outfielder Derek Williams enters the matchup with the last four hits leaving the ballpark. He has racked up nine extra-base hits among his 12 knocks on the season. Freshman Camden Johnson has shined at the top of the Shockers’ batting order, hitting .457 through 11 games for the third-best mark in the AAC.

🔼  Talking Tennis. Both Shocker men’s and women’s tennis teams will be in action at home this weekend. The men will square up against No. 34 ranked UCF at Genesis Rock Road while the women’s team will take on Abilene Christian at Wichita Country Club.

🔼 Praise In Pairs. For the third time this season, Salese Blow was named the AAC Freshman of the Week following her performance in the Shockers' 68-65 win over UAB. The freshman hit four three-pointers and recorded three assists in the comeback win to wrap up her first collegiate regular season. The conference also named Daniela Abies to the AAC Honor Roll for the fourth time. The sophomore from Malaga, Spain recorded her 10th double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

🔼 Repping The Shockers. Following her performance at the AAC Championships, Destiny Masters will represent the Shockers in Boston this weekend in both the high jump and pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Masters is one of four female athletes in Wichita State history to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in multiple events in the same year. Masters ranks ninth in the nation in the pentathlon with her school record mark of 4,211 points. She is tied for 11th in the nation in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.86m/6'1.25" to win the AAC title and tie the Wichita State record.
