Shocker Brew 4/13: 17 In A Row

Plus: Track & field sets records once again.

Good morning, Shocker Nation.

Wichita State track & field had a standout day at the Arkansas Spring Invitational, headlined by senior Jelese Alexander breaking the program's 16-year-old long jump school record with a final-attempt mark of 6.37m. Her mark was good for No. 2 in the American and No. 14 nationally. Alexander also cleared 1.83m in the high jump to rank No. 9 nationally and move to third all-time at Wichita State.

The men swept the long jump 1-2-3, led by Josh Parrish's conference-leading 7.85m, and the Shockers claimed nine total event wins on the day.

Wichita State heads to the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Oregon Team Invitational, April 16-18.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Clean Sweep. Wichita State softball swept the doubleheader and the series against UTSA with 12-4 and 3-1 wins Saturday at Wilkins Stadium, extending its win streak to five games and improving to 24-15, 12-6 in the American. Freshman Kinzey Woody was the star of game one, going 2-for-3 with a career-high six RBIs, including a grand slam and a walk-off two-run homer, in her first career two-home run game. Ausha Moore homered in both games, and Ryley Nihart tossed a complete game in the nightcap, allowing just one run on three hits. Next up: at Charlotte, Friday, April 17, at 5 p.m.

🔼 Series Clinched. Wichita State baseball claimed the series at conference-leading UAB with a dominant 10-2 finale yesterday, improving to 23-14, 7-5 in the American and handing the Blazers their first home series loss of the season. Johnny Nuanez (4-1) was outstanding, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings before UAB cut it to 3-2 in the seventh. Nolan Ganter, who entered with zero home runs on the year, then exploded for two, including a towering two-run shot in the eighth that broke the game open, finishing with four RBIs. Jayson Jones delivered the knockout with a three-run homer in the ninth. The Shockers head to Kansas on Tuesday; first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. CT.

🔼 A Season To Remember. Wichita State women's bowling capped a remarkable postseason run as NCAA runner-up, falling to No. 1 seed Jacksonville State 4-1 in the National Championship over the weekend. The Shockers' path to the title match was nothing short of spectacular: Aleesha Oden bowled a perfect 300 game against Arkansas State in the Final Four, the first in NCAA Final Four history, and the Shockers battled back from a 0-2 series deficit to eliminate Vanderbilt in six games and reach the championship. Oden earned All-Tournament honors for the Shockers, who finished 79-36 on the season.

🔼 Tee Off. Wichita State women's golf wraps up the regular season at the Stampede at the Creek today and tomorrow in Omaha. The Shockers enter with six top-five team finishes in eight events this season, led by senior Mackenzie Wilson, who paces the team in stroke average (75.2) and birdies (51) and has three top-10 individual finishes on the year.
