Shocker Brew: 4/14: Slugfest = Softball Series Dub
The Wichita State softball team secured another conference series win, defeating East Carolina in a wild game Saturday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Good morning, Shocker Nation! Behind Sami Hood's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 7th, the Wichita State softball team secured another conference series win, defeating East Carolina in a wild game Saturday night at Wilkins Stadium, 9-8.
The birthday girl, Ellee Eck, went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jodie Epperson singled and doubled to go with an RBI and two runs scored. Taylor Sedlacek hit her 11th home run of the season and 30th of her career, moving her into a tie for 10th all time at Wichita State. Ava Sliger (5-4) picked up the win in 3.0 innings of relief for start Chloe Barber, the former allowing no earned runs on four hits with a strikeout.
Unfortunately, the series sweep eluded the Shockers on Sunday.

🔼 How About This Hot Streak? 🔥 The No. 54 Wichita State women's tennis team takes on No. 47 Charlotte in Memphis, Tennessee, tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT. The Shockers are 12-8 on the year. The squad’s current six-match streak is the longest for the Shockers since 2019. After starting 1-4 Wichita State has won 11 of their last 15 matches.

🔼 All Eyes On Tilma 👀. The Wichita State women's golf team begins play in the 2025 AAC Women's Golf Championship today through Wednesday at Southern Hills Plantation Club.
The Shockers enter after tying for tenth last week in The 'Mo'Morial Invitational. Kate Tilma finished as the top Shocker for the third time this season, tying for 40th.
At last year's AAC Championship, Tilma tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard, leading the bottom-seed Shockers to a ninth-place finish at Southern Hills in the 12-team field.

🔼 ‘Nother Hometown Hooper. Wichita State WBB gained its first transfer portal addition of the spring with the signing of graduate transfer and Wichita native Jaila Harding. For the third-straight season, head coach Terry Nooner has brought a hometown kid back to Wichita for her final season of collegiate basketball, signing Tre'Zure Jobe in 2023 and Taylor Jameson in 2024.
Harding, a 5-foot-8 guard, spent 2023-25 at New Mexico State, where she averaged 8.8 points per game over the last two seasons. Both seasons, she led the Aggies in three-point shooting, hitting 61 threes each year to rank fourth in Conference USA in three pointers per game.

🔼 Memphis-Bound. The Wichita State men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-0 loss to the No. 44 Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Sunday afternoon at MTSU Tennis Center.
Next up, the Shockers begin play in the 2025 American Athletic Conference Championship on April 17 in Memphis, Tennessee, at Leftwich Tennis Center.

🔼 Welp, We’ll Say It … This Was a Shocker. Wichita State's remarkable first NCAA season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday, as the Shockers were eliminated from the NCAA Championship with losses to Jacksonville State (2-1) and Nebraska (2-0) at Suncoast Lanes. The Shockers end their inaugural NCAA campaign with an 87-38 record.

🔼 Cheer-Worthy News. The Wichita State cheer and dance teams traveled to Daytona Beach, Fla., April 9-13, to participate in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) National Championships.
The cheer team won the National Championship in Intermediate Large Coed Division I. In the preliminary round, the Shockers had a raw score of 87.8333 and an event score of 24.3357 with just 0.25 in deductions. In the final round, the Shockers scored 88.0667 for a total event score of 97.5371. WSU finished almost two points in front of second place VCU.

🔼 Another Masterful Performance. Wichita State's Destiny Masters recorded a new NCAA Division I heptathlon lead, scoring 5,715 points at the Bryan Clay Multis.
The senior had the best high jump clearance of day one, clearing 1.82m/5'11.5" to tie for the American Athletic Conference lead. On day two, she threw the best javelin mark of the competition with a season-best throw of 46.74m/153'4". The mark currently ranks sixth in the AAC.

🔼 ‘Runners Up. Four runs in the top of the sixth inning by the visiting Roadrunners were too much for the Wichita State baseball team to overcome in a 5-1 loss at Eck Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Shockers are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to in-state foe Kansas. First pitch from Lawrence is scheduled for 6:00 pm CT.
