Shocker Brew 4/27: Chasing A Championship
Plus: Welcome to Wichita.

Good morning, Shocker Nation. Make it a dozen! Wichita State softball completed the sweep of North Texas with an 8-2 win Sunday, extending the Shockers' winning streak to 12, just one shy of the program record. Ausha Moore crushed her 20th homer of the season, becoming just the third player in program history to reach that mark.

Trinity Allen went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI, and Kammie Smith bounced back from a snapped hit streak with a 3-for-5 day. Back-to-back two-run blasts from Moore and Allen blew the game open in the third, and Jade Sanders shut the door with three scoreless innings of relief. The Shockers remain tied with South Florida atop the American Conference standings at 18-6.

⛳ Chasing a Championship
🏀 Welcome to Wichita
🌾 And much, much more!
🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State notched 11 top-three finishes at the OU O Ring Alumni Open with a partial squad in Norman. Luke Holthusen won the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best 14.36, while Rikard Trogen Hedin cleared a personal-best 4.90 meters in the pole vault to move into a tie for seventh in the American Conference. Travon Williams took second in the long jump at 7.47 meters, and the women's javelin group dominated with a 2-3-4-5 sweep led by Emma Bezdek's toss of 39.48 meters. Shocker pole vault coach Aliyah Fertig also got in on the action, winning the vault at 4.38 meters. The Shockers head to the Rock Chalk Classic on May 1-2.
📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Series W. Wichita State baseball blasted Rice 13-3 in seven innings yesterday, securing the series win and the Shockers' seventh run-rule victory of the season. Jack Quick launched a 473-foot two-run homer in the second to get things rolling, and Jayson Jones capped it with a walk-off three-run shot in the seventh to end it. Ethan Gonzalez added a solo homer and an RBI single, while Zeb Henry went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Caleb Reed was sharp in his first start of the season, tossing 4.1 innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. The Shockers hold sole possession of fourth place in the American Conference at 10-8, keeping them in line for a first-round tournament bye.

🔼 Chasing a Championship. Wichita State men's golf heads to the American Conference Championship starting Monday in Sarasota. The Shockers bring six top-five team finishes this season and carry the third-best team stroke average in program history at 286.43. Senior Jose Miguel Ramirez leads the charge with a 70.9 stroke average, 120 birdies, and six eagles after finishing as the conference's individual runner-up a year ago. Michael Robson returns to the lineup for the first time since early March, joining Ramirez, Jose Carletta, Emilio Arellano Lamas, and Caden Cox in the 11-team, 54-hole event against conference foes including No. 22 Charlotte.

🔼 Welcome to Wichita. Wichita State men's basketball landed its third transfer portal addition with the signing of 6-foot-6 guard Bryce Heard from Dayton. A former consensus four-star recruit, Heard played his freshman season at NC State before moving to Dayton, where he appeared in 36 games and averaged 6.6 points while shooting 37 percent from three. The Chicago native was a standout at Homewood Flossmoor High School, where he won the Illinois Class 4A state championship with a 33-4 record and earned game MVP honors in the title game after posting 21 points and 10 rebounds.
