Shocker Brew 4/29: Let's Dance
Plus: An honor for a Wichita State pitcher.

Good morning, Shocker Nation.
The Shockers are dancing again! Wichita State women's tennis earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018, heading to the Norman Regional as the No. 3 seed. The Shockers (21-4) will face No. 2 seed and No. 25 SMU on May 2, with the winner advancing to take on the Oklahoma-Kansas winner. It caps a breakout season that included a program-record 19-match winning streak and a climb to No. 24 in the ITA rankings. It's the 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

🔼 All-Conference. Sophomore Zaid Al Mashni earned American Conference All-Conference honors in men's tennis, the first Shocker to receive the nod since 2021. The Jordan native went 14-8 in singles and 14-5 in doubles this season, climbing as high as No. 66 in the national rankings. Al Mashni delivered clinching points in wins over Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Denver, and teamed with Pablo Roche Alcaya to knock off Oklahoma's No. 32-ranked doubles pair. He's the first all-conference selection under head coach Darragh Glavin.

🔼 Final Rankings. Wichita State women's bowling locked in its highest-ever NCAA ranking at No. 3 in the final NTCA Coaches Poll after a thrilling run to the national championship match. The Shockers finished 79-36, battling back through the elimination bracket at the Arlington Regional, including two wins over top-seeded Louisiana Tech, before knocking off Arkansas State and Vanderbilt to reach the title match against Jacksonville State. Four Shockers earned All-America honors: Aleesha Oden on the First Team, Sara Duque Jiménez and Ashtyn Woods on the Second Team, and Paige Wagner as Honorable Mention.
🔼 Best of the Week. Congratulations to Wichita State softball pitcher Jade Sanders, who earned American Conference Pitcher of the Week honors! In three games, Sanders went 1-0 with a 1.11 ERA across 12.2 innings pitched. Sanders struck out eight.

🔼 New Addition. Wichita State men's basketball added 6-11 center Cyr Malonga from the transfer portal, bringing American Conference experience and rim presence to the Shockers' frontcourt. The Cong native spent two seasons at East Carolina before playing at New Mexico State last year, where he shot 67.3 percent from the field in 24 games. Coach Paul Mills praised Malonga as an elite finisher at the rim and a disruptive defensive presence in pick-and-roll situations. He was rated the No. 31 center and No. 3 player in Kentucky in the 2023 recruiting class out of Evangel Christian.
🔼 Welcome to Wichita. Wichita State women’s basketball announced the addition of Melanie Balcomb as the program’s new associate head coach.
