🌾 ONE BIG THING

The Shockers concluded a dominant weekend with a 15-3 run-rule win over Rice to complete the sweep against the Owls. The bats were hot in each contest as Wichita State scored 32 runs across three games.

Pitcher Tommy LaPour locked in five scoreless innings to help the Shockers to the win, and in his last three starts, has shined with a 1.75 ERA, racked up 34 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .195 batting average. At the plate, Derek Williams blasted a three-run home run which led to his four RBI day, while six other players finished with an RBI on the day. Finishing the weekend at 5-1 in AAC play, Wichita State will get ready for a battle against Oklahoma on Tuesday night, Kansas on Wednesday night, and then a three-game weekend series against South Florida.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Seven’s Heaven. In the home opener of the outdoor track and field season, Wichita State captured seven individual event titles at the Shocker Spring Invitational. Zander Cobb secured the first win of the weekend in the 3,000m with a time of 8:31.43. In the 110m hurdles, Josh Parrish edged out fellow teammate, Joseph Holthusen, who beat him by .15 seconds. The men’s and women’s 4×100 relay squads brought out the broomsticks and finished atop the podium to sweep the event.

🔼 Finished Strong. After falling in the first two games of the series, Shocker softball picked up a road win, 7-5, in the finale at Charlotte. Starting pitcher Alex Aguilar threw a complete game to record a tough win in the circle while CC Wong and Addison Barnard tormented the Bobcat’s pitching staff as each doubled and homered to combine for five RBI on the day. Sitting at 8-4 in conference play, the Shockers will return to Wilkins Stadium for a three-game series against Tulsa next weekend.

🔼 Tee Time. Wichita State men's golf continues its 2024 spring campaign with a trip to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The Shockers are looking to continue to build after a strong showing two weeks ago in the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate, where the Shockers finished as tournament runner-up and senior Blake Lorenz finished one stroke out of first place.

🔼 Home Court Advantage. Shocker men’s tennis is looking to build some momentum following their 4-1 win over UT Arlington in their match today against Tulsa. Wichita State will face off against the top-100 team in the Sunflower State for the first home-court match this season. Alejandro Jacome leads the team with 11 total wins in dual matches this year, and Marcelo Sepulveda looks to keep the pace after winning five singles matches in a row.
