Shocker Brew 4/12: All Systems Go

Good morning! Shocker volleyball will close out its spring schedule in a pair of matchups this Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas. The reigning NIVC champions will take on Missouri first at 11 a.m. followed by a match against the Jayhawks at 3 p.m.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

After suffering a close loss on Wednesday night to Kansas State, Shocker baseball will return to AAC play to take on Florida Atlantic for a three-game series. In the first series as conference opponents, the Shockers will look to gain an advantage over the Owls as both teams currently sit in a tie for third in the AAC standings.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Wheels Up. The Shocker men’s golf team is traveling to Iowa City to compete at the Hawkeye Invitational in its final regular season tournament of the year. At the start of the month, the Shockers made a ninth-place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic where Aston Castillo finished tied for fourth and Blake Lorenz made a top-20 finish.

🔼 Crucial Series. Shocker softball heads back out on the road for another AAC series against South Florida. Wichita State leads the all-time series 11-10, and most recently, the Shockers swept USF for the first time ever a season ago. Krystin Nelson has stepped up to the plate, hitting .529 in American Athletic Conference games, and CC Wong ranks 4th nationally in batting average (.486), 8th in on-base percentage (.568) and 12th in slugging percentage (.905).

🔼 Clash On The Court. Shocker women’s tennis heads to Lawrence, KS, this weekend to face off against Kansas for the season's penultimate match. Entering the dual, the Shockers are 4-5 on the road this season but 11-8 overall. The duo of Xin Tong Wang and Natsumi Kurahashi lead the Shockers in doubles wins with 13 and they are 8-2 in their last ten while Wang also leads the team in singles wins with 11.

🔼 The Roundhouse Podcast. On the latest episode of the Roundhouse Podcast, we check in on spring volleyball with libero/DS Katie Galligan and outside hitter Emerson Wilford. The duo updates us on the two newcomers, their goals this spring and how the NIVC title helped set a high standard in the gym. Plus, the crew talks about contentious game nights at the Galligan house and how their family lives shaped their college careers.
