Today, baseball takes the series and track and field hosts 2,500, take home eight wins

Good morning! Softball season is in full swing, and more is about to be added to the mix with AU Pro Softball season, featuring Shocker legend Sydney McKinney, nearly back in season.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker women's golf will end the season at the AAC Championship, beginning today at Southern Hills Plantation Club. The Shockers have three sophomores and one redshirt freshman making the trip to Florida, along with graduating senior, Madison Slayton.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Series Dub. Wichita State surged to a quick 7-0 lead but had to fight off a spirited rally from Florida Atlantic to earn a 10-5 win at Eck Stadium. The series finale saw the Shockers score in only three innings, but each time, scored three or more runs. Seth Stroh led the bats, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI while Derek Williams blasted a ball over the wall for a grand slam. The Shockers will wrap up the homestand on Wednesday night when Oral Roberts comes to Wichita.

🔼 Feeling Grand. Shocker softball fell in the series to USF this weekend, but the team took home game one on the road, 5-3, thanks to a grand slam from CC Wong. Wichita State scored all five runs in the fourth inning, capitalized by Wong’s bases-clearing hit for her second grand slam of the season. After evening the series at one apiece, the Shockers fought hard in the finale but fell 3-2.

🔼 Closing Time. Shocker men's golf team concluded their final regular season tournament of the 2024 campaign with a 13th-place finish at Finkbine Golf Course. In the opening round, the Shockers compiled what would end up being their best round of the tournament, shooting 283 as a team and moving into a four-way tie for sixth place. Blake Lorenz led the Shockers with a two-under round, followed close behind by Zach Sokolosky at one-under. The team will now prepare for the upcoming AAC Championship on April 19 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.

🔼 Kind Of A Big Deal. Cessna Stadium saw around 2,500 athletes over three days as Wichita State track and field hosted the 76th annual KT Woodman Classic and Shocker Pre-State Challenge. The Shockers racked up eight event wins and two event sweeps throughout the two-day collegiate meet including a sweep of the hurdles from Kate Campos and Joseph Holthusen. Wichita State brought out the broomsticks in the high jump with Brady Palen winning the men’s competition while Destiny Masters took home the gold in the women’s.

🔼 Meant To Be. After falling to Kansas on Friday, Shocker women’s tennis bounced back to defeat Louisiana Tech, 4-2, on Senior Day. The 68th-ranked squad picked up its second win in three matches. Heading into singles play having secured the doubles point, Natsumi Kurahashi, Theodora Chantava and Kristina Kudryavtseva brought home the win for the Shockers. The team will now get ready to compete in the AAC Championship, which begins on April 17 in Dallas, Texas.

🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA

Solo Shot. Shocker women’s golf is headed to the postseason this week, and the team will be looking to mimic the play of a certain golfer from the 2018 season.
