🌾 ONE BIG THING

There’s a new record holder in town! Wichita State men’s golf’s Blake Lorenz is the new Shocker all-time career stroke leader. The senior’s career stroke average is 72.07, beating the previous record of 72.16 set by Louis Cohen Boyer from 2011-15.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Vaulting In. Arantxa Cortez posted the seventh-best mark in Shocker history on Friday night as the sophomore cleared 3.91m/12’10” in the pole vault to auto-qualify for the U23 South American Championships.

Cortez’s mark was the best on the day for all college competitors; she finished second in the pole vault behind Wichita State coach Aliyah Welter who cleared 4.21m/13’9.75”.

🔼 Completed It. The Shockers got a complete game shutout and a massive three-run homer to secure a 6-0 win against North Texas on Saturday afternoon. Chloe Barber carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the fifth before giving up her only two allowed hits of the afternoon; she finished the day with three strikeouts and three walks.

Taylor Sedlacek’s three-run blast in the third gave Wichita State a lead it wouldn’t surrender as the Shockers added two insurance runs with RBI doubles from Krystin Nelson and Caroline Tallent.

Senior weekend is next up for the Shockers who will host Memphis from May 3-5 at Wilkins Stadium in the regular season finale.

🔼 Double The Fun. Wichita State baseball picked up an early win during Sunday’s doubleheader against Tulane. While the Shockers dropped Game 1 on Friday night and rain washed out Saturday’s game, the Shockers secured the 6-3 win in Sunday’s seven-inning matinee. Jordan Rogers opened the scoring for the Shockers with a solo shot in the first; Josh Livingston continued the trend with a three-run blast in the third to put the Shockers up 5-0.

In the day’s second game, Wichita State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third off the bat of none other than Jordan Rogers who crushed the ball so hard, legend has it that it’s still bouncing down 21st Street this morning. Tulane went on to secure a win for the series.

Wichita State will be back on the diamond tomorrow night to take on Oklahoma State.
