Wichita State baseball survived a ninth-inning scare to beat South Florida 8-5 in 10 innings on Saturday, earning the No. 7 seed in the American Conference Championship at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater. The Shockers rallied in the 10th on a squeeze bunt that drew a wild throw, followed by a dropped fly ball in the sun that plated two more for the cushion. Johnny Nuanez was excellent, retiring the final 10 batters he faced across seven innings, and Heitaro Hayashi closed it out with a 1-2-3 10th. Jaden Gustafson paced the offense with two RBI singles.

Wichita State opens the tournament on Wednesday against No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic at noon CT in a single-elimination matchup.

🔼 Ran For It. They’re champs! Wichita State men's track and field claimed its third American Conference Outdoor Championship over the weekend, winning the team title by 31 points over North Texas with 171 points.

Junior Josh Parrish was named the meet's Most Valuable Performer after scoring a competition-high 26.5 points, winning the 110-meter hurdles for the second straight year and the long jump, while also contributing in the 4x100 relay, 200 meters, and triple jump. Jason Parrish went back-to-back in the 400-meter hurdles with a 49.58 title defense, and freshman Jasmine Stiede, who earned Freshman of the Year, pulled off one of the meet's biggest upsets: entering seeded 19th in the 800 meters before winning the final in 2:13.89.

Wichita State swept the high jump titles with Kaleb Tesmer winning the men's event and Jelese Alexander clearing a top-10 mark nationally to claim the women's crown, while Lucy Ndungu and Elkana Kipruto claimed back-to-back 10,000-meter wins

The Shockers won nine events overall and combined with their women's squad for the most total points of any program in the meet!
