🌾 ONE BIG THING

Both the men’s and women’s track and field squads finished in fourth place to wrap up the AAC Outdoor Championships in San Antonio, Texas. Adria Navajon claimed his second AAC decathlon title as one of three Shockers to earn all-conference recognition. Navajon became a five-time AAC multi-events champion, scoring a personal-best 7,213 points and moving up to ninth all-time in Shocker history. Joining him atop the podium was Brady Palen who earned gold in the high jump, clearing 2.19 meters.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Championship Run. Shocker softball’s run in the AAC Championship came to an end in the title game, falling in five innings to Charlotte, 10-1 on Saturday afternoon. Playing a fourth game in four days, Wichita State struggled to plate any runs and finished with four hits on the day. Bailey Urban knocked in the run for the Shockers on an RBI single, but after all was said and done, the Black and Gold finished as runner-ups.

Four Shockers were named to the All-Tournament team CC Wong, Sami Hood, Lainee Brown and, of course, Addison Barnard who also earned the Most Outstanding Player after going 7-for-9 with six home runs and 13 RBI.

🔼 Finished The Fight. Shocker long-distance runner Lucy Ndungu claimed the first podium finish for Wichita State of the AAC Outdoor Championships, finishing second in a dramatic 10,000m race. She took a tumble during the 17th lap but battled right back into the race and fought for the silver by besting her opponent by .03 seconds. Ndungu earned all-conference recognition for her performance, her first AAC track and field honor after being named all-conference in cross country in the fall.

🗣️ “It's a major struggle to recover and collect yourself and get back into a race like that, and she did. She battled right back up toward the front and then was in a race at the end, and she fought so hard. I was not able to contain my emotions at the end of that race because it was such a valiant effort." - Steve Rainbolt, head coach

🔼 Senior Sweep. Shocker baseball completed the sweep over Charlotte with a 7-2 win to close out the home schedule. After securing the first two games to earn the series victory, the bats came alive in the seventh inning as the Shockers put up six runs thanks to a three-run home run from Kam Durnin and some RBI hits from Jordan Rogers and Lane Haworth. Riding a five-game win streak, the Shockers will close out the regular season on the road next weekend against Memphis.

🔼 con-Grad-ulations. Wichita State Athletics had a number of its student-athletes close out their time in Wichita by walking across the stage with a diploma in hand. Check out which Shockers athletes reached their highest achievement of completing their studies.
