Shocker Brew 5/17: Welcome Home

Today, Shocker baseball run-rule the Tigers and both basketball programs add to next season’s rosters

Good morning! The AAC Track and Field Outdoor Championships brought out the best in many of the Shockers’ student-athletes.

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

⚾️ Shockers run-rule the Tigers
🏀 Both programs add to next season’s rosters
🌾 And much, much more!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State added more firepower to its frontcourt with the signing of Saint Peter's transfer Corey Washington for the 2024-25 season. The 6-foot-6 forward spent his first two seasons with the Peacocks, helping the program to an appearance in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. This past season, Washington improved his numbers in every category, including 15.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on 45.5 percent shooting and 30.8 percent from three-point range, earning All-MAAC First Team honors.

🗣️ “Corey has met every challenge in front of him as a collegiate player and thrived. He led a good Saint Peter's team to the NCAA Tournament this past season and I'm confident he will be a valuable addition to do the same thing for the Shockers moving forward." - Paul Mills, head coach

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Runs Rule. Shocker baseball turned a close game into a rout with four runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to support another strong start on the mound from Tommy LaPour, rolling past Memphis, 14-1. The win not only extended the Shockers’ win streak to six but guaranteed a top-four seed in the AAC Tournament. Jordan Rogers led the offense with two home runs, his first multi-homer game of his career, resulting in three runs for Wichita State.

🔼 New Digs. Wichita State women's basketball head coach Terry Nooner announced the addition of senior transfer, Bre'Yon White, to the 2024-25 roster. The Pearland, Texas native comes from TCU where she helped the team to nine-straight victories last season as a junior. During the 2022-23 season, she was one of two Horned Frogs to appear in all 31 games.

🔼 The Roundhouse Podcast. Shocker baseball’s freshman shortstop, Kam Durnin, stops by to talk about the Shockers on a five-game win streak as postseason play approaches. The crew discusses his background as a multi-sport athlete and how he became a kicker for his high school football team. Plus, he describes growing up in a family with two brothers close in age and how those competitions helped shape his athletic career.
