Shocker Brew 5/22: Three strikes, you're out
Today: Wichita State advances in the AAC Tournament.
Good morning! Senior Caden Favors wheeled and dealed on the mound in yesterday’s AAC Championship opening-round win. Hear what Favors loves most about his teammates - and see just how many hats he can wear on his head at one time.
What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?
✈️ Welcome to Wichita
⚾ Three strikes, you’re out
🌾 And much, much more!
🌾 ONE BIG THING
The bats caught fire yesterday as the Shockers tallied an 8-2 win over UAB in the first round of the AAC Championship. Caden Favors pitched 6.1 strong innings, striking out seven and allowing just one run, while Josh Livingston and Jordan Rogers paved the way offensively, each going 2-for-4 on the day.
Wichita State posted four runs off the long ball with Livingston belting a seventh-inning two-run shot and Seth Stroh capping off the scoring with a two-run no-doubter as the Shockers advanced. During the top of the second, Wichita State got a jaw-dropping catch from Dayvin Johnson - think we’ll see this one on SportsCenter’s Top 10?
Wichita State is off today and will be back on the diamond tomorrow to take on the winner of No. 8 Rice vs. No. 1 East Carolina. The first pitch is slated for 12:00pm CT on ESPN+. Full bracket here.

🔼 Welcome To Wichita. Wichita State women’s tennis added Sati Aubakirova to the team’s 2024 signing class this week! Aubakirova, a native of Kazakhstan, is currently ranked No. 637 in the ITF Junior rankings and has checked in as high as No. 583 during her career. The four-time ITF Junior Doubles champion is the first to sign for the 2024 class.
“We had an instant connection with Sati when we started recruiting her,” said head coach Colin Foster. “She clearly has a passion and enthusiasm for the game and will add to our positive team culture.”
🔼 Staying Local. Patrick Harris is coming home! The Wichita native joined the Wichita State women’s basketball coaching staff this week. Harris worked as the associate head coach at Stephen F. Austin last season, helping pilot the Lumberjacks to the WAC championship game.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to join Wichita State women's basketball,” Harrison said. "My passion for this city and this university runs deep, and I can't thank Coach Nooner and his staff enough for this opportunity. I've had some incredible championship memories as a Shocker, and I can't wait to create more on and off the floor with this team!"
