Shocker Brew 5/6: Round Of Applause

Today, softball's season-ending sweep and a pair of Shocker Open winners

Good morning! Fresh off the bench to pinch hit, Josh Livingston made the most of his plate appearance by blasting a grand slam to secure a victory for Shocker baseball. However, that might not be the most impressive thing that happened out on the diamond for the Shockers this weekend…

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker softball completed the series sweep of Memphis on Sunday with an 8-0 run-rule win in five innings, powered by Chloe Barber's incredible no-hitter performance from the circle. Wichita State clinched the No. 4 seed in next week's AAC Championship and extended its win streak to 17 in a row over Memphis. The sweep also marked Wichita State's third series sweep of the season.

Barber’s no-hitter is the first of her collegiate career and only the 21st in program history. In 5.0 innings, she struck out nine and walked four, while earning her ninth win. On offense, CC Wong had four of Wichita State's 13 hits on the day, including the walk-off RBI double, and Lainee Brown delivered a Senior Day three-run home run.

Now heading into the AAC Championship, the No. 4-seeded Shockers will face off against No. 9-seed UTSA on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Bounce Back. After falling in the first game of the series against UTSA, Shocker baseball bounced back to take Saturday’s doubleheader by scores of 11-2 and 8-4. It was the first time all season an opponent handed the Roadrunners an AAC home series loss. In game one, the offense came alive, but it was pitcher Caden Favors who came in clutch with a complete game performance. Game two featured a tight contest until the seventh inning saw the Shockers plate seven runners thanks to the aforementioned grand slam. The Shockers now return home for the final series of the season at Eck Stadium, squaring off against Charlotte starting Friday at 6 p.m.

🔼 Closing Time. Wichita State track and field concluded the regular season over the weekend with the Shocker Open where the team honored its seniors. The team finished with two wins as Joseph Holthusen won his final 110m hurdles race at Cessna Stadium with a time of 14.04, and Josh Parrish earned his third long jump win of the season with a jump of 7.37m. The Shockers will now head into the postseason where the team will travel to San Antonio, Texas for the AAC Outdoor Championships from May 10-12.
