Shocker Brew: 6/30: Red, White and Brew

It's a week of mini-Brews and reminiscing on this incredible year for Shockers Athletics as we head towards Independence Day.

Good morning, Shocker Nation. In honor of Independence Day on Friday ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ, we will be offering you a week of mini-Brews. Youโ€™ll still be getting your favorite Shockers content through Wednesday, but theyโ€™ll be sparklers in comparison to a whole fireworks show. ๐ŸŽ†

A cuppa, if you will. Weโ€™ll be back with your Venti-sized, piping hot Brew on Monday, July 7. โ˜•๏ธ

While you prepare for the holiday by cleaning your grill and dusting off those lawn games, letโ€™s keep rolling with some of the best stories from WSU Athletics from 2024-25, shall we?

What else are we mixing into todayโ€™s edition of the Shocker Brew? Find out below!

๐Ÿ”ผ Call It Kismet. At WSU, coach Steve Rainboltโ€™s athletes have earned 20 All-American honors during his tenure. Destiny Masters may top that list for surprising even Rainbolt. Hip problems limited her high school experience at Bluestem and her marks made her a borderline recruit.

"She trained it out," Rainbolt said. "She knew nothing. She came here as a high jumper."

Masters finished her Shocker career with six All-American honors in the pentathlon (2024), heptathlon (2024, 2025) and high jump (2023 outdoor, 2024 indoor, 2024 outdoor). In June, she placed 10th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon with a score of 5,763 points to earn second-team All-American honors.

๐Ÿ”ผ Blazing Trails. The Shockers womenโ€™s bowling team, who won 11 Intercollegiate Team Championship titles from 1975-2024 as an independent varsity team, joined the athletic department in July as WSU's 16th NCAA sport (the NCAA does not sponsor men's bowling). That national success as one of the sport's pioneers translated to NCAA competition.

The Shockers won the Conference USA Tournament by defeating 2024 NCAA champion Jacksonville State to earn an NCAA bid. They advanced to the Final Four in Las Vegas by defeating Felician (N.J.) and Vanderbilt in regional play. Losses to Jacksonville State and Nebraska ended their season.

The National Tenpin Coaches Association named Holly Harris the Coach of the Year while Sara Duque Jimenez earned All-American honors.
