Shocker Brew 6/12: Found Favors

Today, Favors named to an All-Region team and women’s golf adds to its roster

Good morning! The Shockers’ latest addition to the track and field squad will compete as a thrower in 2024.

What else are we mixing into today’s Brew?

⚾️ Favors named All-Region
⛳️ Women’s golf adds to its roster
🌾 And much, much more!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State senior left-handed pitcher Caden Favors was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region Second Team for his efforts on the mound during the 2024 season.

Favors is the first Wichita State pitcher since Charlie Lowell in 2011 to earn a spot on the All-Region team, though Payton Tolle did earn a spot as a utility player last season. The lefty pitcher was the workhorse of the Wichita State weekend rotation, going 9-4 with a 3.21 ERA over 17 appearances that included 16 starts. The southpaw logged 106.2 innings, the seventh-most in the country and the highest total from a Shocker since 2010.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Straight Ahead. Shocker women’s golf has added Samantha Straight to the roster for the 2024-25 season. Straight, a transfer from Troy, competed in all five fall tournaments with her low round for the year coming at the Jupiter Women's Invitational where she notched a score of 72 in the opening round. The Carrollton, Texas native will join the Shockers with two years left of eligibility.

🗣️ "Sam is going to bring good college experience with her. With as young as we will be next year, it's going to be nice to have a junior come in and play for us." - Tom McCurdy, head coach

🔼 A True Homecoming. Earlier this week, Wilkins Stadium hosted AU Pro Softball’s Opening Day with a familiar face in attendance. On the same field that saw her rewrite the Shocker softball record books was Sydney McKinney who played shortstop for Team Wiggins.
