Good morning! Clear eyes, heads down, in the lab workin’. That’s what Shocker basketball is focused on this summer as both men’s and women’s programs head into next season with new coaches at the helm.
What else are we tossing into today’s Brew?

🔼 It’s All About The Signs. WSU’s newest coach, Brian Green, is hitting the ground running to get ready for next season. Take the above gif as a sign of good things to come as Green mentioned it will be used frequently as recruits start flooding in. It’s a good time to get in on the ground floor of what this baseball program is building, and we all get front seats of both who and what’s to come.
🔼 Jumping Right In. Joining the Shockers from Overland Park, KS is standout sprinter/jumper Kelvin Acheampong. Kelvin, a soon-to-be-freshman, picked up multiple first place finishes in the triple jump, and was awarded Male Athlete of the Meet for his outing in the Kansas Relays.
🔼 Save the Date! The inaugural Black and Yellow Gala will be later this summer on August 19th at the Charles Koch Arena. The event will go directly toward the support of all Shocker student-athletes and teams. Join us for this fantastic fundraising event by purchasing tickets down below.
🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA
Pitch Perfect. Last season, the Shockers softball pitching staff had quite the record, and with new pitching coach Courtney Oliver, it’s only going to get better.

🌾 ONE BIG THING
Following the success of Shocker softball this past season, head coach Kristi Bredbenner decided to further improve her squad. Let’s all give a big Wichita welcome to the newest pitching coach Courtney Oliver as she comes in to help out with one of the most dominant pitching staffs in the AAC.
Oliver joins the Shockers from in-conference foe Houston after serving as their associate head coach for the past two seasons. She also spent six seasons from 2016-2021 with East Carolina as the head coach. Safe to say, she knows her way around the American Athletic Conference.
🗣️ “She brings with her 15 years of high level coaching experience that will help our pitchers develop physically and mentally.” - Head Coach Kristi Bredbenner.
🤓 At Houston, Oliver helped lead the Cougars’ top pitcher to a 2.61 ERA with 167 strikeouts, which led the team in 2023.
