Shocker Brew 6/26: Doing Big Things
New Tally, Re-Runs, and much more!
Good morning! NBA Champion and former Shocker Fred VanVleet hosted his fourth annual summer basketball camp for aspiring hoopers in the Rockford, Illinois area where he grew up. He, as well as the rest of Shocker nation knows, there’s no place like home.
What else are we tossing into today’s Brew?
⚾️ New Tally
🏃♂️ Re-Runs
🌾 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 New Tally. Shocker’s baseball coach Brian Green is officially up to something. Since our last mention of Green’s exciting new gif (marking new faces joining the program), the head honcho has posted four times, meaning good news is on the way. With a lot more offseason to come, the future of WSU baseball is already looking bright!
🔼 Re-Runs. While prep for the Shocker’s next track and field season is underway, across the pond, WSU’s own Yuben Goncalves and Paula Garcia are representing their respective countries at the European Athletics Team Championships.
Mr. Goncalves finished in sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 50.79 seconds while running for his home country, Portugal, and the Spaniard, Paula Garcia, raced with her team in the 4×100 relays.
🔼 Offseason Trophies. Among 64 participants in the 2023 Missouri Amateur Championship, men’s golfer Michael Winslow reached the final match and finished as the runner-up to close out the weekend. With the hardware secured, Winslow will use this momentum as he heads back to WSU for his senior season next year.
🔼 Save the Date! The inaugural Black and Yellow Gala will be later this summer on August 19th at the Charles Koch Arena. The event will go directly toward the support of all Shocker student-athletes and teams. Join us for this fantastic fundraising event by purchasing tickets down below.

🌾 ONE BIG THING
The Shocker’s standout guard, Craig Porter Jr., will continue his basketball career after signing a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers this past weekend. Last season, he averaged 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game as a do-it-all type of player.
This offseason, he prepped for the NBA Draft and signing period by participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament that has a reputation for finding players pro scouts consider ‘diamonds in the rough’.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: Four!
Despite being just 6-foot-2, Porter Jr. led the team in rebounds and blocks, as well as typical team-leading stats for a point guard with assists and steals. WSU has seen ballers be able to thrive at the next level, and we can’t wait to see how it all pans out for this member of the Shocker family!
Have a great Monday, y’all.
