Shocker Brew 6/5: New Field, Old Memories
Summer Clean Up, One Big Thing, and much more!
Good morning! A lot of Shocker baseball history occurred this past weekend including a 1991 College World Series win that went to 12 innings, a Wichita Regional win in a scoreless affair in 2007, and a five-hitter was thrown in another CWS win in 1982. Not a bad weekend for Wichita State baseball history!
What else are we tossing into today’s Brew?
🥎 Summer Clean Up
👟 One Big Thing
🌾 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Summer Clean Up. There’s nothing like the smell of fresh turf before a game, and that smell is only going to get better after some renovation this summer.
Wilkins Stadium will have some fresh new turf come next season, and with that will come new memories. Take a look back at some of the best moments from this historic season the Shockers gave us all.
🧹 The first win of the eventual season sweep against the No. 3 team in the country.
🚶♀️ Late season walk-off drama
There are countless other highlights from the entire season, but these stood out among the rest. The Shocker student-athletes accomplished all of this while still maintaining above a collective 3.50 GPA.
Wilkins Stadium will be back and looking better than ever soon enough, and we can’t wait until more memories are made.
🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA
Historical Success. The 1991 win mentioned at the top is regarded as one of the best CWS wins in Shocker history. The game ended 3-2 after 12 innings, and drew a crowd of over 18,000 fans.
The question today—do you know who Wichita State’s opponent was for that game?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: Creighton!
The Shockers defeated the Blue Jays for the 10th straight time, and for the seventh time during that 1991 season. Talk about having someone’s number.
