Shocker Brew: 7/16: Pitch Perfect Potter to MLB
Wichita State junior right-handed pitcher Nick Potter was selected in the 5th Round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.

Good morning, Shocker Nation. Wichita State junior right-handed pitcher Nick Potter was selected in the 5th Round of the 2025 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros on Monday afternoon. Potter was the 156th overall selection.
Potter appeared in 23 games out of the Wichita State bullpen in 2025, going 2-1 with three saves and a 3.34 ERA in 29.2 innings. The native of Greenwood, Missouri struck out 33 and walked 17, allowing 21 hits for an opponent batting average of .200. A junior college transfer from Crowder College, Potter developed into one of the nation's hardest throwers while at Wichita State, with a fastball that was regularly clocked in the upper-90s and touched 100 miles per hour.

🌾 ONE BIG THING

A Bolt of Lightning. Steve Rainbolt is the director of track and field at Wichita State, and he joined the RH Podcast to talk about wrapping up 25 years leading the program this spring.
We talk about why he starts athletes out "playing track," and why he gets emotional thinking about conference titles. We also discuss some of his top athletes (and some of his lesser-known favorites) and his affinity for Cessna Stadium and its place in Kansas track and field history.
In those 25 years, the Shockers won 35 conference team titles and earned 83 All-American awards. Rainbolt earned Midwest Region Coach of the Year eight times while at Wichita State and is a 28-time conference coach of the year.
