🌾 ONE BIG THING

Wichita State senior left-handed pitcher Caden Favors was selected with the 175th overall selection in the sixth Round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Guardians. With Favors’ going in the draft, the Shockers have now had a player picked in 44 consecutive MLB drafts with the exception of 2020.

Favors was the workhorse of the Wichita State weekend rotation during the 2024 season, earning Second Team ABCA/Rawlings Central All-Region and First Team All-AAC honors. The southpaw finished with nine wins and a 3.21 ERA over 17 appearances that included 16 starts and 106.2 innings.

🔼 Bohm Run Derby. Former Shocker baseball player Alec Bohm was one of eight All-Stars selected to compete in this year’s Home Run Derby. Coming in as an underdog, Bohm blew the competition away in the first round, tallying the most of any hitter with 21 moon shots. In the semifinal round, he was eliminated in a swing-off after hitting another 15 home runs.

🔼 Ticket, Please. AShocker track and field sprinter who competed for the team from 2017-2022 has earned her way to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Paula Garcia was selected to represent Team Spain as a member of the 400m relay team. Garcia becomes the 11th former Shocker athlete to be named an Olympian, joining the likes of Aliphine Tuliamuk, Randy Lewis and Ineta Radevica, among others.
