Shocker Brew 7/31: Only The Beginning

Be Ready to Be Ready, One, Two Punch, and much more!

Good morning! Today, we introduce to you: the Jordan Rodgers inning, a.k.a the sixth inning. WSU’s Mr. Rodgers hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in the same inning with his summer league club, and it’s safe to say we are happy he’s coming back to Wichita soon.

What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?

🔼 Be Ready to Be Ready. Shockers men’s basketball is preparing for a trip to Greece which leaves next week, and that means preparing in a variety of ways.

The team has been using the official FIBA ball in practices to get ready to face off against some of Greece’s top basketball players, including the Thessaloniki All-Stars. The ball is a bit different from what the NCAA usually allows, so preparing in this way will help them perform at a higher level.

🗣️ “These practices are hard, probably the hardest practices I’ve been through in my life. We’re getting better and it’s still fun at the same time.” - WSU forward Isaac Abidde.

🔼 One, Two Punch. This pair of Shocker alumni are back on top! At the USATF 7-mile Championships, Kellyn Taylor finished atop the podium alongside Aliphine Tuliamuk who finished just behind her for a second place finish. The winning time from Taylor to win the grand prize of $12,500? 36 minutes and 33 seconds! Now that’s some serious speed.

🔼 Moving Along. Our outdoor pole vault school record holder, Brooke Rasnick, is headed off to Louisville to continue her coaching career in track and field.

🔼 Save the Date! The inaugural Black and Yellow Gala will be later this summer on August 19th at the Charles Koch Arena. The event will go directly toward the support of all Shocker student-athletes and teams. Join us for this fantastic fundraising event by purchasing tickets down below.
