Shocker Brew 8/18: Test Run
Fight ‘Til The End, Hottest Event of the Summer, and much more!
Good morning! Yesterday, Director of Athletics Kevin Saal welcomed nearly 100 new Shocker student-athletes to Wichita for the 2023-24 academic year. It’s so cool they get to play for the greatest sports city in the country…
What all are we mixing into today’s Brew?
🏐 Fight ‘Til The End
🎉 Hottest Event of the Summer
🌾 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Fight ‘Til The End. Although this game won’t count towards the win/loss column, the Shockers’ comeback win against Oklahoma will set the tone with the start of the regular season just a week away.
After WSU fell behind 2-1, the team settled in and dominated the rest of the way, outscoring the Sooners 40-20 in the last two sets. Five Shockers had five or more kills on the outing, and the squad hit .227 compared to OU’s .041 hitting percentage.
Riding high after a come-from-behind win, the Shockers will look to take their momentum into the regular season debut against Notre Dame in the Under Armour Challenge next week.
🔼 Our House. Reminder: nobody does basketball like Wichita. Only 82 days remain until the basketball season tips off, and after breaking TBT’s attendance record for the second year in a row, imagine the kind of turn out Shocker nation will provide at the beginning of November.
🔼 Save the Date! The day has finally come! The inaugural Black and Yellow Gala is happening tomorrow night at the Charles Koch Arena with the event directly supporting all Shocker student-athletes and teams. Join us for this fantastic fundraising event by purchasing tickets down below.
🔼 Road to the Big Dance. Shocker volleyball head coach Chris Lamb has set up the schedule in a surgical-like manner that could potentially lead the team back to the NCAA Tournament.
🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA
Last But Not Least. The Shockers had quite the spring semester in 2023, and many of our student-athletes were awarded for their hard work.
Our question today — can you name the Shocker student-athlete who took home an honorary ESPY award earlier this week?

🌾 ONE BIG THING
The Roundhouse Pod is back again with men’s basketball assistant coach TJ Cleveland as he updates us on the Shockers’ trip to Greece. Plus, he discusses newcomer Dalen Ridgnal’s immediate impact after joining the team, as well as others who stood out overseas.
