Shocker Brew: 9/10: Love Letter to Shocker Fans
Head Shocker MBB Coach Paul Mills shared a memorable experience of meeting famed Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, and it carried a message for Shocker fans.

Good morning, Shocker Nation. Head Shocker MBB Coach Paul Mills was a guest columnist for the WSU student letter, sharing his experience of meeting famed Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan when he was 15. Though meeting the G.O.A.T. after waiting for eight hours was something he’ll treasure, someone else sticks out to him from that day—the security guard who went the extra mile to ensure he retained his top spot in line after chaos had ensued. And that’s the experience that Coach wants for you, the Shocker fan.
"That security guard noticed a committed fan and went out of his way to provide a memorable experience. As that security guard did for me, we want to do for you: the committed Shocker fans," @GoShockersMBB coach Paul Mills writes in a guest column.

Saal Sounds Off. Wichita State AD Kevin Saal got in on the guest column action, too, writing to Shocker fans:
“That’s why we want your game-day experience to match the passion you bring. All students get in free, and we’ve been working hard to make the ticketing process seamless — quicker entry and easier access to tickets in person or online. We’re also introducing the use of meal swipes inside Koch Arena, so grabbing food can be part of your night without an extra expense. You belong here, and we want it to feel that way from the moment you walk in.”

🎤 AD Saal also sat down with the Director of Broadcasting, Denning Gerig, to discuss NIL, revenue sharing and more.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Strokes of Genius, We Tell You. Wichita State posted a near program-best team score on its way to a second-place finish at the Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday.
The Shockers' runner-up finish came behind round scores of 301, 290, and 290, firing an 881 (+27) for the week. It's the highest team finish for the Shockers since October of 2022, when the Shockers won Creighton's Big 'O' Classic. The team score of 881 is the third best in Shocker history, just six strokes off tying the team record set in March of 2019. Only tournament host Missouri State topped the Shockers, posting an 867 (+15) score to take the team crown.

🔼 Unstoppable Combo. Wichita State volleyball student-athletes Jordan Heatherly and Maddie Wilson have both been named to the American Conference Honor Roll for their performances at the BYU Nike Invitational. Heatherly had one of the best weeks by an American setter, while Wilson put together one of the top defensive efforts. The Shockers finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Heatherly averaged 9.77 assists, 0.77 kills, 0.31 service aces, 1.62 digs and 0.54 blocks per set, while guiding the team to a .230 attack percentage. She also earned all-tournament team honors. Wilson, a redshirt junior middle blocker from Colorado Springs, Colo., averaged 1.55 blocks, 0.36 digs, 1.82 kills and 0.18 service aces per set.

🔼 Widening the Circle. Driven by a lifelong passion for Wichita State Athletics, particularly Shocker Men's Basketball, Tony and Sherl Weatherbee are stepping forward with a heartfelt gift that reflects their love of the Shockers and commitment to Wichita.
Inspired by the recent generosity of Shane and Kianne Prill and Rick and Barbara Hemphill, the Weatherbees have purchased and donated 50 season tickets for the 2025–26 Wichita State Men's Basketball season. These tickets will be distributed by community organizations, allowing more Wichita-area residents to experience the energy and tradition of Shocker basketball at Charles Koch Arena.
