Shocker Brew: 9/15: WSU Wins in Sweeping Fashion

The Wichita State (6-2) volleyball team finished the Golden Eagle Invitational undefeated with a sweep of Samford (2-4)

Good morning, Shocker Nation. The Wichita State (6-2) volleyball team finished the Golden Eagle Invitational undefeated with a sweep of Samford (2-4). The Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-12.

Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Jordan Heatherly had eight kills, 32 assists, seven digs and a block. Brooklyn Leggett finished with seven kills and a career-high five service aces, while Katie Galligan had a match-high 17 digs.

Mental Health Matters. Mouhamad Ballout and Mallie Hall of Wichita State's mental health and performance department join the RH podcast as part of suicide prevention month. We discuss the importance of prominent figures speaking about mental challenges, and how Ballout and Hall help athletes learn why it is crucial to recharge their batteries. We also talk about handling social media, advice for parents and book recommendations. 

The mental health and performance department is holding a mental health summit for Wichita State student-athletes, sponsored by Suspenders4Hope, on Sept. 30.

๐Ÿ”ผ  Repping in the Ram. The Wichita State men's golf team played its best round of the week, rallying to finish 11th in Colorado State's Ram Masters Invitational on Friday.
 
The Shockers posted rounds of 294, 299, and 288 for a team score of 881, 41 strokes over par. Long Beach State upset host Colorado State, winning by two strokes with a team score of 840, good for even par.
 
Jose Miguel Ramirez led the Shockers to the finish line, tying for 14th with a score of 213, just three strokes over par, posting a 68 (-3) score in round two.
