🌾 ONE BIG THING

Set Up For Success. Wichita State Volleyball’s Sydney Dunning and Jordan Heatherly have been named to the American Conference Honor Roll for their performances at the Golden Eagle Invitational. Heatherly had one of the best weeks by an American setter, while Dunning put together one of the top offensive efforts.

The Shockers finished the tournament 3-0 with sweeps over Radford, Tennessee Tech, and Samford. Dunning, a junior outside hitter from McClave, Colo., averaged 4.44 kills and 2.67 digs per set, while hitting .514. Heatherly, a junior setter, averaged 11.00 assists, 1.89 kills, 0.44 service aces, 2.00 digs, and 0.56 blocks per set, while hitting .556. She also guided the team to a .397 attack percentage.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 The Ultimate Hype Crew. Wichita State volleyball attendance passed an average of 1,000 fans a match in 2004. Except for the COVID-19 season, crowds remained above that mark every season since. As the years and championships piled up under coach Chris Lamb, it became routine to see 1,000-2,000 seats occupied at Koch Arena.

Two people who don't take those numbers for granted are newcomers Sydney Dunning and Jordan Heatherly. Wichita State drew 1,277 fans for its opening match against Kennesaw State and 1,311 for a win over Arkansas and that crowd made a big impression on Dunning and Heatherly.

"I have never played in front of a crowd this big," said Heatherly. "I've never had such dedicated fans and people who want the best for us. You soak it in a little bit more."

🔼  Brief Blip. The Wichita State volleyball team fell to No. 17 Kansas 3-0 on Tuesday night at Charles Koch Arena to end a four-match win streak. The Shockers lost by scores of 28-26, 25-14, and 25-16.

The Shockers are next in action Sept. 18-20 at the South Dakota Classic in Vermillion, S.D. WSU faces Drake on Sept. 18, hosts South Dakota on Sept. 19, and plays Villanova on Sept. 20.

🔼  It’s a Scramble. The Wichita State baseball team will be hosting the Shocker Golf Classic on Friday, Oct. 10, at Tallgrass Country Club.

The four-person scramble begins with a shotgun start at 12:00 pm at Tallgrass in Wichita. Current Wichita State players and staff will be assisting with the event throughout the day, providing a unique opportunity to get to know the members of the 2026 roster.
