🗣 Shocker Way Fund Announcement
🌾 And much, much more!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

He Set His Sights on Softball. Wichita State Director of Athletics Kevin Saal has been named to the NCAA Division I Softball Oversight Committee.

The committee is comprised of 10 athletics administrators tasked with oversight of the sport of softball (e.g., playing rules, legislation, playing/practice/recruiting seasons, etc.), including seeding, bracketing, and managing the Women's College World Series. Saal begins a four-year term from 2025 to 2028. Wichita State head softball coach Kristi Bredbenner recently concluded a four-year term on the previous softball championship committee (2022-2025).

Since Saal arrived in Wichita, the Shockers have won conference championships in softball, men's track and field, volleyball, and women's bowling.

🔼 Double-Doubles For Days. The Wichita State volleyball team (7-3) won its 35th-straight match against Drake (3-6) with a 3-1 win at the South Dakota Classic. The Shockers won by scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-21.

Three different Shockers collected double-doubles, with Maddie Wilson having 11 kills and a career-high 11 blocks. The 11 blocks are a school record for blocks in a four-set match in the rally scoring era.

Sydney Dunning finished with 13 kills and a career-high 17 digs, while Jordan Heatherly had 39 assists and 11 digs. Gabi Maas led the Shockers with 20 digs, while Grace Hett added a career-high 10. Brooklyn Leggett just missed a double-double with 11 kills and a career-high nine blocks.

🔼 Rolling With the Pitches. The kick changeup is the newest twist on baseball's toughest pitch to master. Changeups, most pitchers say, require endless repetition and experimentation to find the correct grip and arm motion. Fooling the hitter with an 82 mph pitch that looks every bit like the 92 mph pitch is a masterpiece of muscle memory.

Wichita State's Brady Hamilton went into the summer needing to add a changeup to his repertoire; he and pitching coach Anthony Claggett agreed. Hamilton finished last spring with a promising stretch. Backing that up with an improved changeup seemed like the next step.

The Shockers open full practices today, with a scrimmage open to the public at 5 p.m. CT.
