Good morning, Shocker Nation. Wichita State will hold the 56th Observance of Memorial '70 at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Memorial near 18th and Hillside, honoring the 31 players, administrators, and supporters who died in the 1970 plane crash in the Rocky Mountains. A wreath will be placed at the base of the Memorial, followed by a time of remembrance and a reception in the lobby of the Duerksen Fine Arts Center.

The Shocker '70 Room in the Rhatigan Student Center will be open for anyone who wishes to drop in. Contributions can be made to the Football '70 Memorial Scholarship, the only endowed scholarship at WSU dedicated to the collective memory of those lost.

Dinara De Silva opened her Wichita State women’s tennis career with a perfect 2-0 record in singles at the Husker Invitational, leading the Shockers in wins over a weekend that also included Iowa State, Minnesota, Denver, Missouri, and Nebraska. She knocked off Kansas' Polina Koneva in three sets before dispatching Simryn Jacob in straight sets. Alina Vysochenko also made her Shocker debut, going 1-2 in singles. Wichita State has the weekend off before the ITA Central Regional Championships on Oct. 14-19.
