Today, we catch up on Shocker golf

Good morning! Shocker men’s basketball freshened up their facilities ahead of the 2023-24 season. As they say, look good, feel good, play good, and our Shockers are going to be feeling good in this new place.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Striking Distance. Shockers men’s golf is off and walking at the Allstate Streamsong Invite, and the Black and Gold, through the team’s first two rounds, sit within striking distance of first place.

The Shockers are 15-under par through two rounds of the tournament with just six strokes separating second and fifth place. Two golfers are tied for the team lead at four-under par with Lucas Scheufler and Zach Sokolosky together in a tie for 11th. Blake Lorenz and Michael Winslow sit just behind them at three-under par in a tie for 19th.

🔼 Look Out, Here We Come. The return of fall ball for Shocker softball means that the season is just around the corner. Of course, Wichita State fans will have all eyes on the team come the regular season, but Softball America listed the Shockers as the top mid-major team to keep an eye on.

🔼 Founders’ Day. Shocker Nation, join us tomorrow for Founders’ Day - a 24-hour giving event to celebrate WSU Athletics and our commitment to our student-athletes. Your contribution is an investment into the future of our programs and will help us align resources to championship expectations. No matter the amount, your gift counts!

🤔 SHOCKER TRIVIA

Going Low. There is no better feeling than posting a low round for your team in a golf tournament, and a couple of Shockers have carded historically low rounds for their team.

Our question today — do you know lowest individual tournament score posted by Shocker men’s AND women’s golfer?

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker women’s golf wrapped up their first tournament of the season at the Payne Stewart Memorial and came away with a solid fourth place finish amongst the 17 team field.

In her debut in the Black and Gold, Kate Tilma finished as the team’s leading golfer after turning in a 1-under par score for the 54-hole tournament. She finished in a tie for fifth place and was just one of seven players to finish the week under par. Anna Takahashi, in her very own debut as a Shocker, filled the second place slot on the team after finishing the tournament 2-over par.

With the season now officially underway, the Shockers now shift focus to prepare for the Coeur d’Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational later this month in, you guessed it, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
