For the second consecutive year, Shocker cross country swept the team titles at the JK Gold Classic. The women’s team scored a perfect 15 points and the men’s team scored 16 points on the Shockers home track.

The big story of the day was Lucy Ndungu, who in her first race with the black and gold, claimed her first win with a time of 17:42.5 in the 5K.

🗣️ “It was incredible. I know I’ve been working toward this, and I feel like I had more still in me, but it felt really amazing.” - Lucy Ndungu post-race

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker volleyball, have a weekend!

After traveling up north to Champaign, Illinois, the Shockers swept the competition, including a thrilling game one victory over Big 10 opponent, Illinois.

On Friday, the Shockers went into the Fighting Illini territory and started off strong, getting out to a 2-1 lead. The team almost put the game away in the fourth set, but the Illini fought back, forcing a fifth and final winner-take-all set.

It was back and forth for most of the last set, but the final point went to the Shockers for one of the biggest wins of the season thus far. In the end, the Shockers had five more kills, four less errors, a .190 hitting percentage (compared to just .133 for Illinois), and four more aces - all of which helped pull the squad to victory.

Saturday was a different story. The Shockers faced off against Illinois State, and took care of business early.

The Shockers did not allow the Redbirds to get above 17 points in any of the three sets, and finished with a staggering .316 hitting percentage. Sophia Rohling led the way with 10 kills and added three blocks to her stat sheet.

The Black and Gold will return from the state of Illinois with brooms in hand, and a cool 3-2 record to go along with them.
