🔼 Familiar Face. Shocker women’s tennis has added a new face to its coaching staff with the addition of assistant coach Max Wheeler. The Wichita native returns home to coach for his hometown team after completing a collegiate tennis career of his own at William Jewel College, a DII program.

🗣️ “I’m very excited to add Max to our staff. He is a super positive guy who brings a great energy to the team, and he is a very hard worker.” - Head coach Colin Foster

🔼 Headed Downtown. The Shocker men’s basketball team is headed back to INTRUST Bank Arena for the annual Downtown Game. WSU will face off against South Dakota State, a team they have never lost to, on December 9th. Tickets go on sale next week on September 15th, so be ready to jump on those tickets to see first year coach, Paul Mills, and the Shockers go to work.

🔼 Moving On Up. According to 2023 Shocker grad Clayton Duchatschek, the best is yet to come. Fresh off the heels of an incredible track and field career with Wichita State, Duchatschek announced that he will be signing a professional contract with the Minnesota Distance Elite. One of the Shockers’ all-time track and field athletes finished his career ranked second in school history in the indoor 5,000m race and third in the indoor 3,000m event.

🔼 Super Hot Fire. Shocker baseball star Brock Rodden continues to put up big numbers with the single-A Seattle Mariners affiliate. In his last 28 games, the former Shocker has had at least 1 hit in 24 games. As you would expect, his averages are coming along nicely as well, posting a .320 batting average with 19 RBIs.

🗣️ “I’m looking forward to continuing my progression in an area of my life that I’ve worked so hard to develop and joining a group of like-minded individuals. Wichita State was the perfect place for me to develop…if it weren’t for those things, I would not be in the position the position I am.” - Clayton Duchatschek

🔼 Founders’ Day. Join Shocker Nation on 9/14 for Founders’ Day - a 24-hour giving event to celebrate WSU Athletics and our commitment to our student-athletes. Your contribution is an investment into the future of our programs and will help us align resources to championship expectations. No matter the amount, your gift counts!

🌾 ONE BIG THING

Shocker volleyball hosted Kansas last night for the squad’s first matchup as tournament hosts of the Shocker Classic. The Black and Gold fought hard to take a set after going down 2-0 in the match, and after going deep into the fourth, the Shockers ultimately fell to the Jayhawks in a 3-1 loss.

Sophia Rohling finished the match as the team’s lead killer with 14 on the night, and Natalie Foster added 10 kills and totaled a game-high eight blocks on the night. The hosts of the Shocker Classic will have to wait until Saturday night to face off against their final opponent, Colorado, at the Charles Koch Arena.
